I'm pondering a do-over on my DM earring.

Way back when I thought I would be a BRD forever (til I got fucking bored with it), I picked the Beastly Earring from DM. My rationale was it was good for BRD and would be nice for BST as well. This was back in the middle of CoP expansion.

Well, now I don't play BRD at all. Only thing I've held onto from it is my minstrel's coat and Opo Crown (sentimental value, friends worked hard to help me get them). Now that I'm focused on SCH, looking to revive my RDM and finish BST, I'm kinda thinking Abyssal would be more worthwhile.

SCH and RDM would see the bulk of my endgame action, so obviously Abyssal would be a good choice. Still, there's something to be said for Suppa on RDM and BST, too.

Guess I'm kinda torn. I do intend to work on my NIN sub now that FoV has renewed my interest in finishing it as a sub.

Abyssal's +2 INT, +5 Dark Magic/Scythe skill would benefit all three jobs, though I'm not much of a scythe fan on BST. I'm all axes. But I can get that +2 INT from other earrings and I scam most of my Dark Magic skill from SCH anyway, it would really only be helping RDM in that regard.

Suppa would do nothing for SCH, but then, I do have Moldavite earring and then have things like Loquacious and Magnetic Earring I'd want to get anyway. Maybe SCH and RDM would have enough magey earrings.

Anyway, I'm still on the fence here.

Get suppa or bushi. Abyssal is the biggest waste to be ever had, unless you level dark.

Aren't there many good DD earrings already? Compared to Mage earrings atleast...

I've got the abyssal for my long-forgotten BLM and my RDM. I don't use it a whole lot though...

You can get +2 STR from Triumphs to replace the Bushinomimi and +2 AGI from other earrings. What's golden about Bushinomimi is that it's free +2 STR and the GK skill if you're a samurai (which I know a lot of samurais). And the Supponomimi gives +5 sword skill and dual wield effect which no other earring can give. Great for jobs that dual wield.

I had a hard time deciding between busha and suppa because I have both samurai and ninja. But coupling the bushanomimi with the justice torque seems like the right thing to do.

Well thing about these earring is they all give some kind of skill for a weapon that no other earring can give. Reason I've held on to the Beastly for so long is I wouldn't commonly be out there DW on BST anyway since most of my EXP is solo and WHM or DNC sub would often prove too good to pass up.

The only melee I forsee taking up aside from BST would be DRG for Foobar, which I left at 60 ages ago.

Kitten has Suppa, Suppa works with practically everything on that character, so no issues there.

That aside I think the main complicating factor in this decision is that we have very little objective data on the effects of +5 Dark Skill. Suppa's awesomeness is very easy to quantify; +5 Attack and +2.5% Hit Rate to sword users and +6.25% DPS for /NIN jobs or +7.69% DPS for NIN main.

I never said the +2 stat was the reason to get. The only reason I say bushi or suppa is that I from personal experience, I've done a lot with and seen a lot of other samurais (bandwagon job go!). They would definitely benefit from the bushinomimi for the skill (and the +2 str doesn't hurt as well).

As for the suppanomimi, I could care less about the agility. It's the sword skill and the dual wield effect that make it so great. The fact that so many jobs could benefit from dual wield makes it superb. Especially for ninja who has access to the AF body, which also enhances the dual wield effect.

For this alone I thank you. This was the exact sentiment I had when I got into my 1st dunes party as a BRD. And then Aht Urhgan came out...


Personally I lean on the suppa because it's unique. The DW bonus is fairly noticeable, and the +5 sword helps nicely. As far as "mage" earrings go, there's already quite a few available that beat the pants out of anything DM offers (Moldy, Novio, Magnetic, Loq etc)

I've been thinking of reacquiring my DM earring as well, since I've started levelling NIN and Suppanomimi is going to be a lot more useful than Abyssal ever will be for my BLM.

Just to go slightly off topic though, does anyone know how the reacquisition process works? I know you have to get a Moonlight Ore and another Pentasphere if you dropped the original one, but the Wiki isn't clear on whether everyone has to have a Moonlight Ore or just the people doing the fight for a second time. I'd hate to think that I can only go into the fight with people who are getting their earring for the second time ...

Yes, I know this. I'm asking if the alliance that goes in can be a mix of people who are re-acquiring the earring and people who are getting it for the first time, or if the alliance has to be entirely consisting of people who are going in on Moonlight ores.

We had a mix when I did it. I think just the people going in again needed the ore.

On the original subject, despite playing SMN... and sorta WHM, I went with Suppanomimi. Yeah, it's pretty pointless for my jobs, but it's the one that holds its value best when you change jobs around.

For now, though, there's nothing really that beats popping that into Auto Trans: "I'm {Suppanomimi}! Thanks for asking!"
