About a month ago, me and 2 other BST in our mid 60s triod Aquarius. Very easy fight, axe dropped and I won the lot. Since then and now I’ve duo and triod him at least 7 more times to help random people in the area get the Fran. Every kill yielded a drop since I believe it is 100%.

Yesterday, I did my first attempt at soloing him. To my surprise it was VERY easy for a 74Bst/16Nin (yea…I know my sub is horribly gimped). After I killed him I noticed I got 18,000 gil, Land crab meat and crab shell. No Franny. Is this a 100% drop or just 99.99% and i was the lucky 0.01%.

I do still have the Fran which is why if figured it didn’t drop…but then I noticed other things like Coffer keys and other rare/ex things drop and automatically get tossed. I’ve been forced to throw away at least 10 Garliage Citadel keys due to having one in my inventory.

Does this mean it’s not 100%? Or is it just one of those oddball things that happen?
Or does everyone know it’s not 100% and I’m just an idiot?

It is a 100% drop.

Either the fact that you already had it caused it not to drop or you didn't look at the treasure pool hard enough.

If there's no treasure pool, which would happen in this case if you had inventory space, then a rare/ex item you already have will not show up in the log at all.

If you're in a party of any kind or have a full inventory, it will show up in the treasure pool until the alloted time passes for it to auto-sort. At that point, whoever doesn't have it will obtain it or you will see the 'could not obtain' messae and it will disappear.

Some Ex items behave like the coffer key, where it will "drop", and then get tossed if you already have one. Other Ex items won't drop at all if you already have one in possession.

Someone observed that it's based on whether or not the item is a consumable. Ex consumables will show up in your chat log before getting tossed while non-consumables won't. Coffer keys are "consumed" when you open a coffer, so they would fall under the former category. I haven't had the opportunity to personally observe this behavior since I read that theory, so I can't vouch for it myself.

It must of been the fact that already had it. I noticed the second I killed the crab that it didnt drop. I checked the pool and the chat log. the word Fransisca was not to be found.

This is exactly what happened. Playing solo with plenty of inventory space. But what confused me was that I've had coffer keys drop when I already had one in my inventory (with inv space). I would kill and it would say in the chat log like "Blah blah blah finds a Coffer key", then instantly say "blah blah blah could not obtian key". But the Axe didnt drop at all.

Ahhhh. You learn something new everyday. I have never heard this but it seems to make sense, especially in this situation...UNLESS, what if i decided to eat the first axe??? right right?? ok bad joke, I'll stop.

Thanks everyone for clearing that up. I was on the verge of believe that i'm so unlucky, i cant even get 100% drops ><
