AN earrings

So I just finished Apocalypse Nigh. I was really just doing this for story completion more than anything else. I actually find my options for the earrings a bit underwhelming.

Hollow and Ethereal seem to be my best overall options.

While my BLU is still low level, I do think Ethereal Earring would serve me well in light of all the soloing I can already do on it and also based off of duoing with BLUs in Nyzul/Mire Camp. I've also started to see COR turn into a passable soloist as of the August '07 update think it could be useful for that end. Evoker's Roll is now very reliable for refreshing, the worst we can ever hit is a 2 MP a tick roll most of the time, and 10 now also is a 3 MP a tick roll.

I think it could be really great for soloing on COR considering how much damage it can null now with things like Protect, Cocoon, Phalnax and such under sub and Gallant's Roll and Magus Roll through main. You can actually reflect about a good 30% of damage on a good Gallant's Roll now. Even if Ethereal doesn't give a 3% damage-to-MP covert, that's technically still 3% damage mitigation anyway, right?

Hollow earring seems OK, even better when coupled with Beaters earring and /RNG for Barrage and Slug Shot, but its still not alot and I think I can stand to lose accuracy for better stats elsewhere rather than pile on more. The Update also kicked up the potency of Hunter's Roll pretty hard, so if I really, really need accuracy, I can just roll that (permitting the PT really needs it, I already know of CORs abusing the privilege so they can sub WAR) .

Magnetic could be nice for the MP and spell interruption, I haven't really dabbled with Choral Roll enough to see if its Aquaviel effects got adjustment. But as you can see, I'm basing much of this on what I can dig out of my COR buffs.

Static I just have no use for.

Re: AN earrings

I agree. Your options are underwhelming. Any source of mp is a good thing for soloing, but considering you'd have to take nearly 1000 damage in one shot to get back enough mp for a stoneskin and if you take it in smaller increments the game is probably going to nickel and dime you to death on rounding down, Ethereal seems like it would be really unimpressive. I'd go with Hollow. Then level rdm. >.>

Re: AN earrings

From my understanding, Ethereal only gives you the 3% damage-to-MP effect, not 3% mitigation. It could be that it is indeed mitigation on top of damage dependant Refresh, but I need to get my own to find out for certain (most people that have it don't seem to notice a drop in damage taken).

I just need to find a group for AN.

This is one of those times I wish SE would just toss us a bone about what the new jobs are and get it over with >.> If I could just see a gun-toting chemist, this would be an easier decision >.>

Jalzahn's Ring will be an easy choice for the ToA reward, at least. That's like an NQ Bellona's Ring with no negative stats.

The 3% does -not- get mitigated: it merely gets added to your MP.

I second Lago's suggestion to get a Hollow Earring and level RDM, at least to sub-level.

Re: AN earrings

I'm already planning to work on RDM sub, but for status mobs BLU and RDM subs just do very little good. Stoneskin to null poisons is about as good as those get. Soloing DRG and BST with /WHM as spoiled me on its utility.

Re: AN earrings

I actually didn't care much for the ToAU rings. I chose Bahlran's ring for the Magic Accuracy since it was the most unique (was a tough call though, +6 ranged acc and atk is sick) and I already made that mistake once with RotZ > < (finding myself wishing I'd taken Suppa over Bushi now. I <3 SAM, but wow limited use ><)

If only they didn't have those stupid assault only clauses. The CoP rings were IMO, much more effective over all. As for AN, I'm not even past storms of fate yet ; ; but I'm looking at the accuracy one.

Re: AN earrings

I'm torn between Ulthalam's Ring and Jalzahn's Ring. They're both good, and I have a vested interest in both rings as far as jobs are concerened.

GRRRR at only being able to choose one. I may just get Jal's. Give my Corsair some loving. Dragoon and Blue Mage already have Rajas Ring and a few other things that are nifty, but Corsair is kinda lacking as far as "uber" gear. I have some time to choose, though, as I don't have a group with which to do these missions with.
