Obtaining the Bloodbead ring
I saw someone posting about how they should go about obtaining a Jelly ring. So, I figured I'd drop a post on here about how to obtain the Bloodbead ring.

What is it?

What drops it?

Bloodsucker NM - level 71ish.

Where does it drop?

Bostaunieux Oubliette - noted by the boxed area - i.e. lowest level down in the water.

How do I pop it?

This NM is a timed mob. Once you have his TOD (time of death), it is extraordinarily easy to follow it.

Following server maintenance, the NM will spawn 21-24 hours from server-up. There aren't any windows or anything. It just pops. From its TOD (the moment it was defeated, NOT when its corpse disappears - this is important), it spawns exactly 72 hours later. And I mean exactly, down to the very second. If you copied down the time the corpse poofed, you are shooting yourself in the foot. And that hurts. Make sure to get the time when the NM was defeated.

Note: The NM does NOT have a placeholder. It simply pops. There is no need to kill any mobs in the area to get it to pop.

The low-down

All of the mobs in the boxed area are called Bloodsuckers. They have a red coloring to them and check EP and DC to a level 75. They aggro sneak and link. The NM is a blue colored Bloodsucker and will check as impossible to gauge.
The NM itself can prove to be difficult to a PT that is not well prepared. You will want someone that can sleep/sleepga. Since the NM pops anywhere in the water, there is no guarantee it can be safely pulled without links. Count on there to be links. And you will need people who can sleep to control the situation.
Killing the NM can be slightly tricky. The NM has an additional effect drain on its melee attacks. It seems to have a 100% proc. It also drains for a lot of HP. The NM might only hit you for 20-30, but it will drain for over 100hp easily. It also has all the standard leech TP moves.

What does this mean? It means you either want a blink tank, or be very very heavy with DD.

How do I get claim?

This is really a two-part issue here. First, you have to get claim. Second, you have to survive the initial linking. Always assume you will have links.
This is highly dependent on your competition. When I was camping it, I routinely had 3-4 other LS with 2-6 people in each vying for it. When it comes to getting claim, the more the merrier. But, there are ways to increase your chances.

- THF or /THF for flee: If you have 1 THF, have them start on the stairs on the map, near "B." 2-3 seconds prior to the pop-time, flee. At the "intersections" - only turn the camera to see if the NM is in there. With flee, you can probably claim with steal easily.

- Powder boots: same idea as THF for flee.

- Spread out: This is a no-brainer. However, keep your sleepers near the center of the path. This will ensure that a sleeper won't be too far if someone gets claim that can NOT sleep the mob. I kid you not when I say that you can wind up with 4-5 leechs along with the NM and they can kill in a matter of seconds.

Notes - Recommendations

It is very difficult to solo this NM even at 75. I'm sure its been done. In fact, it is not all that uncommon if you have a little luck on your side. It is possible to single pull the NM. If so, a NIN, melee/NIN BLM or RDM can easily solo the NM. I've heard of SMN soloing the leech by claiming with carby, running to the Ronfaure exit - at which point, due to the MPK patch, only the NM comes. At which point a SMN with enough MP and avatar perpuation delay can land a few blood pacts and possibly kill it.

What I said earlier about it being a two-part claim... actually getting claim on it and then surviving until backup comes? This is where THF and PLD are very useful. THF can negate all damage and buy 30s for backup to come and sleep. PLD can invincible, but still has to deal with the added effect drain on the NM. However, the other leeches are then a non-issue.

PLD should only come PLD/WAR if there is someone who can blink tank it (or if you are heavy in DD). PLD/NIN is the way to go otherwise. That gives you the opportunity to survive while backup comes and then tank the mob.

What's the drop rate like?

I've heard people go 1/1, and I've heard people go 0/15. During the time I camped it, collectively amongst all PTs that got claimed and killed it, I saw around 1/15. However, the only drop I saw was when there was a THF present. I've been told the drop rate is normally not that bad.
