I've been trying for Joyeuse lately, and I'm curious about what was said in this thread about ToD. Somepage lists the repop time as 8-12 hours. FFXIclopedia says 8-16. With a spawn window that large, how is it possible to know in advance and "show up right when it pops?" | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 10-14-2006, 12:59 PM | #32 (permalink) | | Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: Pittsburgh Posts: 552 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 0 Thanked 6x in 4 Posts Gil: 21,349 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 21,349 Donate | Re: Need a Joyuese FAQ Nope, he sucks, is 8 hrs at least. I got my Joyeuse a long time ago but I seem to recall that it had around a 6 hour + lottery pop timer back then.

There was another group of four JP players there too. Happily they got claim, but the RMT group trained everything in the area on top of them hoping they'd mess up and use a -ga for the wipe. Towards the end they brought Zuug into the room and had their tank die right next to them for an old-fashioned MPK, but luckily Chary was at a sliver of health so it was no problem. Looks like getting this thing is going to be much more of a hassle than I thought. ><
So I got ToD, but the problem is the spawn window starts at 5 am for me. Even if I got myself up at that time there would probably be nobody in the linkshell around to help me. I'm afk on the ramp tonight. Hopefully if someone kills Charybdis they'll do it close enough to me that it shows up in my log so I can count the conquest updates to get an approximate ToD.
Anyone have any tips on this? | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 10-19-2006, 08:24 AM | #36 (permalink) | | Junior Member Administrator Join Date: Dec 2003 Posts: 4,884 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 224 Thanked 660x in 337 Posts Gil: 14,441 Bank: 60,235 Total Gil: 74,676 Donate | Re: Need a Joyuese FAQ So .. I woke up this morning to find I had lost my connection. >< I found my log files and puzzled through them and figured out I disconnected some time between 6 and 7 am - right when the spawn window would have opened. >< So, there's about a two hour window during which Charybdis could've spawned and died and I wouldn't know. However, nobody killed any mantas in the intervening time, and when I logged in at 8:30 there was a JP nin there killing them. When she left, the RMT camping Zuug started killing them again. They'd been there all night, so I guess they would know if it had popped and thus wouldn't be killing placeholders if it had.
Here's the thing though. About 12 hours after ToD they just stopped killing mantas. Does the spawn window close after 12 hours or is it possible to pop Chary any time after the spawn window opens? Does it strictly spawn withing 8-12 hours or is it just at least 8-12 hours before it respawns? | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 10-19-2006, 09:13 AM | #37 (permalink) | | Digital Wizard Super Moderator Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: Florida, USA Posts: 5,992 Style: Light - Version 6 My Mood: Thanks: 69 Thanked 458x in 301 Posts Gil: 281 Bank: 83,800 Total Gil: 84,081 Donate | Re: Need a Joyuese FAQ If the minimum is 8 hours, then it's just straight lottery after that point. It can pop at any time afterwards (either when a placeholder is killed, or when it naturally despawns).

We camped for six hours without getting a pop, and at 2:30 most of the group was falling asleep, including me, so we called it quits and I went afk on the ramp to get a fresh ToD. So I wake up just before 10 and see "defeats Charybdis" still hanging in my log, with only one conquest update below it. Stupid fish didn't spawn until nearly 9 am, over 21 hours after the previous ToD, with multiple groups killing the placeholders constantly. But I hope you get it soon, and look at the bright side! When you get it it'll feel more like an acomplishment.

Unless you have log traces all the way back to when you went to sleep, it probably popped at least one other time in between.
And look at it this way: At least it's a 100% drop.
EDIT: Best thing to do is strike an agreement with another camper who is in another region (EU, JP) and trade ToDs with them.

I took off my linkshell to keep clutter down to a minimum. I was able to scroll back up and see the /clock I put in the log before I went to sleep, and it was all Devil Manta deaths between then and now. Even so, I went to sleep just before 3 am, and Charybdis died just before 9 am. There wasn't time for it to spawn twice if it's an 8 hour or even a 6 hour lottery as some suggest. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 10-27-2006, 05:19 AM | #42 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Oct 2006 Posts: 13 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 1 Thanked 2 Times in 1 Post Gil: 193 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 193 Donate | Re: Need a Joyuese FAQ He's a lottery pop, but his window is 8-12 hours long. he's a rotten whore and usually wait for the last minute to pop as well. If you're going after this NM, I'd advise setting aside a lot of time to first get the Time of Death (ToD) and start camping it eight hours later. It has a pretty long window to spawn in, it can be anywhere from exactly eight hours later to 11 hour later, so be ready to tack on extra hours after then window opens eight hours after the ToD.
Some important things to know is that it is a lotto pop off Devil Mantas during the window. These mobs will respawn 15-16 minutes after they're killed. Anticipating the respawn is key to claiming this NM.
You will need a BRD or COR and a NIN for the fight. BRD and COR are helpful for their evasion buffs here (Mambos and Ninja Roll) If you can get all three jobs, perfect.
However, BRD and COR can use Joyeuse, too. And COR has a pretty strong argument for having one, much stronger than RDM does, actually. Its godly for TPing those Slugshots.
Soooo... I'd recommend bringing a COR or BRD that already has a Joyeuse, otherwise they'll try to lot it (set to Quartermaster and keep leadership to prevent this.)
Trust me, there are people who will try to dick you over on this drop, I highly suggest going with people you can trust. I let a guy get the drop ahead of me on a friend's insistance, he swore he'd come back to help and... shocker... he didn't. Got mine on next pop, but one less man on hand put that at risk.
Fast claim jobs are also useful. THF with a Machine Crossbow, WHM with Holy, MNK with Chi Blast, COR with Quick Draw and your usual provoker jobs will all help ensure claim better.
