Re: Need a Joyuese FAQ

Claim rules depends on who's in the area. Back when I got my Joyeuse, there wasn't a lot of competition for it, so it rarely was an issue, but we generally respected the right of anyone who was actively killing PHs and not just standing around waiting (of course you need ToD).

The battle is very easy with a Bard and a Ninja. Easily defeated with a BRD + NIN + RDM. Anything else is just icing.

P.S. Don't PLD-tank this without at a lot of experienced players. It's doable but quite painful when Hundred Fists shows up unexpectedly.

Re: Need a Joyuese FAQ

I'm Planning on Isolating a whole weekend for nothing but camping this guy and watching movies. I'm going in as a PLD/Nin to kill the place holders easy. With the right eva gear and blind potions, would it be possible for me to tank it myself if I have bard lined up to help me when I pop it?

Does that mean you think a rdm could solo it? I've seen Avesta do it, but he's abnormal. Did you have friends? Do you think a normal rdm/nin can solo this?

I only ask because I haven't been lucky with making friends in game since I started playing again and solo seems like the only likely way I'll ever get this sword, which I really really want.

Definately. The only problem is my play time is a bit limited on the weekdays because I work fulltime. I've got a few hours each afternoon and I'd gladly rearange my weekend schedule so I'd be free anytime on Sat and Sunday.

I wasn't talking about the NM. I was talking about the place holders. Everyone can solo place holders. For NM itself you will need some people.

Re: Need a Joyuese FAQ

Well here's the deal I'm in the USMC and i'm going TAD for two and half weeks starting this friday To go to a class in Florida, durring that time I'll be most likely comp less, being that I have a desktop. So I get back on the 16th of July. That Saturday, we can Camp all night and we can carry on each successive Friday-Sunday night till we're both good, if thats good with you. This is planning abit ahead, but it should get us time to get gear together and potions and such maybe plan our time tables and such for when we are available. Maybe swap numbers when the time comes so we can take shifts and have one another on call so we can sleep and eat and such. Depending on your comfort lvl with giving out your phone number lol, just a suggestion though.

lol, I can just see it-

5:30 AM the phone rings

Hamlet- "he...eh...hello??"

Khevn- "DOOD IT JUST POPPED LOG ONTO FFXI!!!"

Your schedule actually jives with mine because I'm lvling up nin for sub and pretty interested in that right now, but after I'm done Joyeuse is pretty much next on my to-do list, and Fridays and Saturdays are great.

I don't think we can duo it, however. Maybe by then I'll know some people willing to help out (doubtful, but maybe)

Re: Need a Joyuese FAQ

Grab a gold beastcoin, head on out to SSGrotto.

Once at the Gold Door, keep checking the door (like, 5-7 times) until you see "You notice traces of gold dust around an indentation"

Trade your gold beast coin (Don't worry, you get to keep it), and zigzag your path downward into the treasure room, which is Charybdis' lair.

There are 2 Devil mantas in this room, and one mildly uninteresting Sahagin NPC that doesn't concern us.

I wouldn't try soloing the Devil Mantas. My mileage may vary, but I could not solo them. Perhaps with Ninja Shadows, but not as a straight PLD/WAR. I had a BLM friend nuke them while I tanked.

Note that sometimes, one of the devil mantas spawn just outside the treasure room door. However, Charybdis spawns only from the ones in the middle of the room, so be sure to kill the ones outside the room, for maximum spawn chance.

Charybdis' spawn is about 8-12 hours from its death. If you're patient enough to snag the Time of Death, it will benefit you greatly.

Other than that, the only advice is, when it's about to or has spawned, call in all the favors you can from your friends, and go all out on him.

If you tank him yourself, try to have lots of cure support. If you don't, try to have a ninja tank it for you.

Good luck, the hours of camping are worth it.

Re: Need a Joyuese FAQ

Back in the day I went down to kill these things with another pld friend, at that time I had O-hat, fullset adaman, wolf belt, behemoth mantle, company sword, 2 soil rings, merc earring pigeon earring, and since it was pre shield changes, I had musketeer gorget, rosenbugen and koenig sheild and I was 75 pld 37 war. I would work them down like this pretty close but couldn't solo them. He opened the gold door and I didn't think to ask how at the time, and i followed him to the room, we killed manta's for about 3 hours and left, we were' mostly just there to kill time before Sky and were'nt worried about actually getting the pop.

This time i'll be going down with O-hat, 2 sniper rings, 2 company swords, Hauby, Amemit+1, adaman hands legs and feet, RG colar, and i'll prob get some +eva earrings most likely. The rest is what already have on hand. and I'll be 75 PLD/37 nin so i think I'll be able to take them solo.

Re: Need a Joyuese FAQ

I knew a PLD that soloed the placeholders as PLD/WHM. Behold the power of spirit taker. >_>a

I wouldn't wear snipers while fighting them though. They're what, easy prey to decent challenge? You don't need accuracy to hit that unless your sword is -really- far from cap. (And I can't think of a reason why it would be.)

He doesn't hundred fists. I've tanked him as PLD and NIN. PLD is ok if you have a lot of support (Which you probably won't have). NIN is best if you have a small group.

Mambo, full eva gear, melody earrings as opposed to Bat earrings and you should be good.

Re: Need a Joyuese FAQ

When I got my Joyuese, I had a friend tank it as a Thf/Nin. He just engauged it for about 25% of it life with minimal cures and me flashing. With his Evade, shadows and bard songs, he got hit twice, maybe three times.

It was then I learned that I was nothing more then a well armored healer. >.>
