What are the best parts I can buy for my computer? I plan on possibly building a new computer over the next few months and I was wondering what the best pieces of hardware I can get are. Here is my proposed system so far: Athlon XP 3200 Radeon 9800 512MB or 1 GB Ram 17/18 inch monitor 60GB HD I'm not too concerned about disk drives right now but what do you guys think of this? I'm wondering if the Intel P4s are better than the Athlon XPs and If I should maybe get the GF FX 5900 instead of the Radeon. Lastly, what should I look for in a monitor? High refresh rate? And Let me know what kind of RAM would work best with this proposed setup. Any other tips would help too. Constructive criticism is welcome, flames are not. |

This set up looks plenty good. I'd get 1gig of ram than 512 personally. I'd get the 9800 over the 5900 too. The 5900 is a bit loud and takes two slots. Afaik, the 5900 doesn't look as good as the 9800. I myself plan on getting the 5600 only because of limited budget and better linux support.

Good good, I was wondering though, do either of these video cards come with video out? Reason I'm wondering is because I planned on getting a PS2 controller adapter to play FFXI on my computer, but because I'm using my PC I can have all the pretty graphics and still hook my computer up through my TV. So it'll be like I'm playing on a super-beefed-up PS2.:spin: Oh, and is there a ibg difference in RAM types? I don't know much about it, so I don't want to get the Intel Celeron equivalent of RAM.

For the moment the RAM types rank as follow 1. PC3200 DDR400 RAM 2. PC1066 RDRAM (Intel only ftm) 3. PC2700 DDR333 RAM and it goes down from there PC2100 DDR, etc. until you reach the bottom, SDRAM. If you're lookin to build a system, for the moment Intel's got the quality, but Athlon's more affordable. If money's no object may as well go for broke. Oh yeah, and please post the system specs after you get it. . . for us hardware junkies
