I checked out the video footage on this page entitled "TGS 2K5 Cam Gameplay HD" naturally the HD version is better, cause it's a much higher resolution video. I can definately tell I'm going to be loving FFXI on xbox 360 from this video! It's such an amazing upgrade from the PS2 version that I've been playing for a while now. I'll especially be able to appreciate it more now that I got a HDTV. The textures look so good!
PC players will naturally say that they're isn't much difference, and they're probably right in terms of graphically, however to me, because my PC isn't perfect, the game has always LOOKED great, but the framerate hasn't always been the best experience for me on PC, which is why I don't even bother to play the game on PC anymore, because I could easily make too many mistakes in battle. The PS2 version, while low res, has always maintained a nice frame rate for me (except in jeuno sometimes), and what I'm most looking forward to about the xbox 360 version is the fact that finally be merging the beautiful looks of the PC version, with the great frame rate of the PS2 version, because with consoles, there isn't compatibility issues, there isn't "my processor isn't good enough" or "i dont have enough memory" problems that occur. It's optimized for the system, and it's gonna be great! | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 09-28-2005, 10:14 AM | #2 (permalink) | | Member Join Date: Apr 2004 Location: PA, USA Posts: 534 Style: Light - Version 4 Thanks: 1 Thanked 3x in 3 Posts Gil: 2,338 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 2,338 Donate | Re: Wow! FFXI footage on xbox 360... I'd have to agree with fastcart the video doesn't do it any justice. As far as brightness and color though that looks to be due mainly to the TV settings which they were recording that off of. The TnL being shows though on the game you are capable of achieving on the computer with a good enough graphics card and the know how to adjust it right.
It's isn't a clear enough video display to really get an aspect of how far a draw distance the Xbox version is suppose to be capable of. It does show a mob vanishing out of range (around 32-33 sec. of play), it's really hard to see though on this video of how far it was though before vanishing.
Area looks like it's La Tiene Plateu the distance the sheep vanishes though still seems to be about the same distance as it has been, still though hard to tell on that video. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 09-28-2005, 01:43 PM | #6 (permalink) | | Π Pie Master Super Moderator Join Date: Dec 2002 Location: Roswell, GA Posts: 4,803 Style: Dark - Version 5 Thanks: 112 Thanked 217x in 146 Posts Gil: 82,810 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 82,810 Donate | Re: Wow! FFXI footage on xbox 360... It's not supposed to keep the monster in view like you want, Macht.
While the draw distance is greatly improved over the PS2 and PC versions, it's only so for the environment. Square Enix intentionally allowed for players and NPCs to pop out of vision like that to keep it fair with the other versions of the game.
It is looking pretty darn good, regardless. Hopefully Tanaka was serious when he said the PC version would get an optional upgrade for graphics like that. FFXI footage on xbox 360... Just a note, FFXI is what sold me on the 360 *sulks* My laptop is too weak for prolonged play (read: weak), the PS2 version is just plain painful, and at the very least I'll still have the 360 for all its other, multiple and nifty do dads like, games and things.
Oh, and yes, it does look good. Any idea if I can get some sort of input card and connect my Xbox to the display on my computer? *preferably a PC card for laptops* Originally Posted by Aksannyi | | I swear some melee would forget their fucking weapon if they didn't have it equipped every time they logged in. | | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 09-28-2005, 02:37 PM | #8 (permalink) | | Pai Pai Lackey Super Moderator Join Date: Feb 2003 Posts: 5,242 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 4 Thanked 29x in 24 Posts Gil: 40,316 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 40,316 Donate | Re: Wow! He did also state that to aquire optimal display from the update that you will need a very high end card One of the main reason's Im buying my Radeon x850 XT (That and for F.E.A.R.) I just pray that its enough to handle it, which from the looks of the video's I just witnessed, seem's like it will be fine. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 09-28-2005, 04:01 PM | #11 (permalink) | | Senior Member Brain of Knowledge Join Date: Aug 2003 Posts: 1,286 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 0 Thanked 2x in 2 Posts Gil: 12,148 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 12,148 Donate | Re: Wow! This I suppose really helps with the fps perception when you go HD with progressive scan. Though might be a little hard on the eyes if you over do it.
OR it could just be the video encoding. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 09-28-2005, 10:19 PM | #12 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Posts: 93 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 1 Thanked 4x in 3 Posts Gil: 1,631 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 1,631 Donate | Re: Wow! They're not adding motion blur to the standard gameplay engine, it's just stuck in there for dramatic cinematic effects. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 09-29-2005, 06:42 AM | #13 (permalink) | | Π Pie Master Super Moderator Join Date: Dec 2002 Location: Roswell, GA Posts: 4,803 Style: Dark - Version 5 Thanks: 112 Thanked 217x in 146 Posts Gil: 82,810 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 82,810 Donate | Re: Wow! Just an fyi for anyone who saw demos for the new consoles back at E3, all of those were being run on PCs too (Apple G5 for xbox360 and a regular PC with sli video card setup for the PS3). Xbox360 version of ffxi is just an upgraded pc version.
