I am the real Maniac writing this thread. This fake SoB has stolen my account that I have worked hard to build since the release of FFXI on Playstation 2. I have completed all of CoP, ZM and up to date on ToAU plus gotten my Magnetic Earring. Ive worked hard to pimp out my character and get endgame armor and now its all gone to waste to someone who doesnt know ANYTHING about any of the jobs I have level'd. All im trying to say is you see this player trying to apply for a linkshell or if he is in a party with you to not even give him a chance. He is a unskilled player and deserves 0 respect from everyone. So far he has been kicked from Final Chapter and RabidMoogle who know about the incident. This is what I get for trusting someone with my account and its my fault at the same time too. Playonline wont do anything but I can take legal action since its illegal to steal someones account. I will not do this since its just a video game and I will get over it. I have made many friends with on this game and its sad to say goodbye since I cant really get my account back. So everyone on Gilgamesh plz be by my side and not give this pathetic person a chance to any LS. Now I feel how Gbf felt when his account was stolen. Goodbye Gilgamesh, these past years were fun and exciting. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 03-29-2007, 07:01 PM | #2 (permalink) | | FFXIWiki Team Join Date: May 2006 Location: Windurst Posts: 4,303 Style: Light - Version 6 My Mood: Thanks: 141 Thanked 1,133x in 635 Posts Gil: 20,585 Bank: 7 Total Gil: 20,592 Donate | Re: Maniac's Account Stolen I hope you're doing a little more than just letting this go. Your credit information was on that account, as well as your name and address. I'd cancel that credit card before the player in question can do anything with that information. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 03-29-2007, 07:08 PM | #3 (permalink) | | King of the Oompa Loompas Oracle of Knowledge Join Date: Nov 2005 Posts: 3,337 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 10 Thanked 114x in 93 Posts Gil: 23,813 Bank: 33,744 Total Gil: 57,557 Donate | Re: Maniac's Account Stolen Originally Posted by Omgwtfbbqkitten | | I hope you're doing a little more than just letting this go. Not to pry, but how did he get your information? Did you know this person and trust him enough to give him your info? | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 03-29-2007, 07:12 PM | #4 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Dec 2005 Posts: 344 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 11 Thanked 13x in 11 Posts Gil: 2,817 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 2,817 Donate | Re: Maniac's Account Stolen According to the OP's post he mentioned something along the lines of "this is what I get for trusting someone with my account", so it's really entirely his fault. Sorry to sound rude and mean, but although it does suck that it happened, for something that you put YEARS investing into it was just careless to lend it to anyone, unless it's someone you know IRL that you can locate and assault of course >_>.
Hopefully nothing happens to your credit info and such, but with the way SE's customer service is you're basically SOL in getting your character back. Server: Hades -Cleverness, Hume, 62RDM/37WHM/27NIN/20SMN/18BLU/18BLM/10PLD/7SCH

I think if I had my account stolen, I'd make it a point to let everyone know it - I'd rather see my reputation obliterated in a game than dragged through the mud. Not everyone is post-happy forum whore, some people lurk until something major happens.
Give the man a benefit of a doubt, it not like it directly affects you either way. This can actually lead to case of identity theft, its not an issue to make light of. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 03-30-2007, 03:33 AM | #9 (permalink) | | Oh yeah! yeah yeah, yeah! And no, it doesn't effect me. Neither does putting innocent people in prison, but that doesn't mean i'm all for it. Originally Posted by MrMageo | | I traded it for a bag of cocaine | |M|r|M|a|g|e|o|

And we don't know the circumstances behind what happened, for instance I can't think of any reason why I shouldn't be able to trust my sister with my account. Or my mom. Although no matter how important they knew some of the information was, at the end of the day it isn't their account and wouldn't be guarded over with their life or anything. There are reasons why it's always reccomended that the only person who should have access to your account should be you.
With that being said, Maniac should definately be doing something about credit info. The character, you might not be able to ever get back, and it is a game, so the best thing to do is just suck it up and move on. But that credit card info you had to enter to start playing, isn't a game, and if whoever it was who stole your account would be underhanded enough to convince you he/she can be trusted only to do something so nasty as steal the account right from under you, they probably wouldn't think twice about taking a little rl money in the process.
And it probably was someone irl. I couldn't imagine giving an online buddy access to that kind of stuff. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 03-30-2007, 05:06 AM | #11 (permalink) | | Fence Sitter Brain of Knowledge Join Date: May 2006 Location: UK Posts: 1,342 Style: Dark - Version 5 Thanks: 53 Thanked 90x in 68 Posts Gil: 3,560 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 3,560 Donate | Re: Maniac's Account Stolen Seriously - whatever the situation, if the account has been compromised, cancel the credit card, get a new one. Very first thing I did after my account got jacked. As it was, nothing was gone from my bank account, but I was not taking that risk. A guy I know had his account stolen by a "friend" and got it back (eventually). If he takes over payment on the account it's harder, but I think you can get it reverted, locked, and taken back. The problem comes into play when he sells all your stuff. As with all things password.
NEVER... (I don't care if you're having sex with them)... Give ANYONE... Your password.
This goes doubly for people you're involved with... They'll toss your Kirin's Pole in The Sea of Bastore, buy 30 mil worth of Reraise Earrings and delevel you on Jormungand if the relationship goes sour
Of course, I suppose this doesn't really count if it's your brother/close relative. They have to deal with you (and your common relations) on a regular basis, and it's a very safe bet that they won't steal/abuse your character. Just make sure little Billy doesn't give your character a bad rep for being the crappiest WHM evah by trying to play a 75WHM when he can barely handle his 28WAR. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | All times are GMT -8.
