But it does make me wonder. Does that apply for people who use 360 as well? Since it would be pointless of having the code in the case. Also note that is an OLD thread. So I am unsure if that data is accurate or not. I've yet to find out anything about the beta and if it's opened or closed. All I did was register my copy as a countermeasure just in case SE pulls some Closed Beta bullshit.

um, those posts seem to be from 2010, not 2012, mew.Besides wasn't that back then during the original PC beta before the 1.0 launch? Kind of confusing.
Also why would SE do PS3 beta sign ups when PC beta sign ups hasn't started, mew?

Uh ... that code was only good for beta 2 years ago. I'm not sure if it'll still work. In addition, they only ever said that beta would be freely available to current subscribers and the media and possibly (POSSIBLY) batches of codes given to their affiliated community sites. Not sure about those that never once played FFXIV being able to get any guaranteed ways in.

Ah that clears up the confusion. So you don't need to register your copy to play? Since it will be open beta? I'm just on the small island of XI that's slowly sinking and I am waiting for XIV to come.

Not sure about "Open Beta" being opened to any Joe off the streets. I'm sure they'll have it available for like the last weekend before it goes live as more of a stress test with regards to downloads and connections through the lobby and impact on a server, but beta will start off as "closed" for the people I posted above before that happens.
Currently it is still in Alpha and it seems like Alpha is being reserved for JP players for the most part. I've no doubt a lucky handful are getting invites elsewhere around the world but it looks like the closed beta will descend upon us well before the last batch of Alpha players get so much more than a peek at the game.

Well, I was able to grab Japanese stuff off PSN before by having a JP PSN account, would I be able to get a key from doing that? I should give it a whirl. Now mind you I only did this because I had a PSP. Not sure if it applies to the PS3, my PSP was modded.

No, this applies only to your Square-Enix account. It has nothing to do with your PSN account.
