Oh here is a interesting one. http://ffxiv-rp.com/ Roleplay style is fun in mmorpgs, though some get kind of carried away ("I received over 50 HP of damage, I must seek medical staff in town to treat this injured elbow.") But ya, some roleplayers are nice fwends and great party members , mew. =^^=

Hate to break it to you but most of the FFXIV RP Community (for the EU Region at least) jumped to Rift after it delivered everything FFXIV promised and more. Most of which hopped to SWTOR when that released (and Trion killed all RP by merging the RP servers with PvE servers) and most of the EU's SWTOR RP community now split time between SWTOR and GW2 (Piken Square).

Basically everyone that cared about RP in FFXIV is playing Guild Wars or Star Wars now.

No idea as to what happened with the RP community from the NA or JP regions though.

Rift Smift. At least some of those communities would join FFXIV ARR after launch, they are just in those other MMOs because there's nothing better at the moment. But you know how people jump into the next latest and greatest thing, mew. and FFXIV ARR still counts as new just like a FF7 remake would count as "new", but better since A.R.R. is a remade world and new story and systems and much more. FFXIV ARR is basically the mmorpg most mmo fans are waiting for, some just won't be convinced until after launch or the updates get to the point where it really draws more interest, mew.

I showed this to Cid on Skype but currently there is a massive RP-PVP event going on on my server on SWTOR on Sunday night. I missed the D&D session but I got to have a blast with some RP on Sunday anyway in SWTOR:



That was just the first battle recorded by an ingame friend who plays a Sith Assassin. The event is still going on and there are huge pitched battles every night between roleplay guilds on either side.

I actually equipped a purple lightsaber crystal so I could see my character in the screenshots and videos but realised that my character is a Sith Sorceress known for her use of Force Lighting so the occasional blasts in the video were likely from me anyway.

EDIT: Yes the RP community is why I love this game.

RP is kind of hard to pull off without community support. When there is a lack of players committed to RP, then you're not likely to experience a healthy (thriving) RP environment. You end up with just a lot of people who probably don't give a piss about whatever it is you're doing.

I also highly doubt JP players engage in a whole lot of RP'ing. Some of them, that I personally know, like to engage in "half-measures", playful but not serious like the RP community can be amongst EU and NA players. If you still want some semblance of a "strong" community, just go play WoW.

well even the best RP community means nothing if people aren't interesting in WoW or Smiften, or something. But ya, there is a whole spectrum of RPing. The most common are "half measures" but still overall, people can find RP groups and stuff in generally all mmorpgs, mew. what level of RP they are looking for, that is a different case, but RPing is fully capable in basically all mmorpgs in various levels. Even if people isolate themselves in RP linkshells, they can make some degree of RP work, mew.

WoW has a community post Pandera? Ever since they forced cross server zones on the entire playerbase it's been full of nothing but trolls and people who do nothing but find RPers to hurl abuse at.
