If they confirm Thief, Ninja or Corsair and I might have to find some way of shoehorning in ARR to my gaming budget and free time.

Well, they didn't explicitly confirm NIN or SAM, just that they're in the pipes.

Also not really sure what you're mad/annoyed at here - I was only stating my curiosity as to what kind of EXP we can expect from questing, as in large lump sums or lesser amounts from multiple, shorter quests - kinda had enough of that already with guild leves tyvm.
I broke up my responses by "..." so only that first one was towards you (J9 comment) ... as for the rest, that was "you" as in general and not you as in Mal. There are a lot of people that just browse the boards and don't post so those are for them.

Nvm, I just assumed since you live in Mexico IIRC?

And they damnwell better not bring back COR as a job for Musketeer. Please god no, it was kinda fun in XI but I'd rather not see it again. Can we please make it Ranger possibly instead? Since Archer became bard, and it makes more sense for the guy using GUNS to be the big ranged DD.

Bullets > Arrows 'nuff said (much as I love both).

Re: 25th Anniversary Translation (MASSIVE CHANGES ON THE WAY)

Unfortunately it probably wouldn't fit XIV's theme with BRD and all that but I would really like seeing something resembling Kyūdō in the game and implemented differently from what Archer currently does. Something like making SAM much more versatile than the Daikatana-guy the job was in XI. With properly implemented Kyūdō instead of western archery and able to use a Yari/Naginata in addition to Katana.

But then I'm biased since Chousokabe archers are my favorite unit in Shogun.

They were never heavy on medieval Japan as a source for their FF titles. The idea of a Samurai was mostly in name only - none of the units were "authentic" by any stretch of the imagination (because the weapons were redistributed amongst the different classes, like Archer and Dragoon, and even dual wield was reserved for Ninjas; even the armor class was mistakenly assigned as "heavy" on more than one occasion) None of the "abilities" actually represented true sword skill, as they were generally a hodge podge of "mystical" and "physical", with elemental properties to boot. A Paladin, I can see as magical, because of the nature of the class and the relationship with religion/spirituality, but Samurai ... eh ... kind of a stretch. They're similar to Warrior as a class, maybe too similar ... which is my quibble with "warriors" in general. Either they're "barbarians", "brawlers", or even a "knight", but they shouldn't be this over-bearing physical damage dealer with knowledge of every weapon under the sun. They should get rid of warriors and replace it with one of the aforementioned classes and therefore allow other classes more leeway in their abilities and progression. It is more accurate to say that Paladins, Samurai and Dragoons are under a class of warriors - not have a category as a class unto itself.

Re: 25th Anniversary Translation (MASSIVE CHANGES ON THE WAY)

Well, it wasn't that uncommon to see soldiers that could wield multiple weapons but yeah, XI was a bit ridiculous in that regard - not to mention largely pointless given the skill ratings for most of them (until abyssea came along anyway).

Samurai is more of medium armor fighter anyway - lacquered wood & metal plates. The katana was never even their primary weapon, it was mostly symbolic actually - the naginata was always the go-to weapon alongside the yumi.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by that last point - they all share somewhat similar themes, but are very distinct. I'm still a little annoyed that PLD hasn't really enjoyed the power level it once had in FF1 and FF4. And DRG is still classified as a medium armor when at least in FF4 and 5, it was a heavy armor user. The job's still too fragile for my liking, wouldn't mind it seeing brought up to WAR's level (just without the tanking skills).

But then SE's done a lot of weird stuff in XIV, like making MNK's primary stats STR and INT - why the hell INT and not DEX or VIT? MND doesn't apply here since they're not associated with any sort of religion or spiritual guidance (their origins are in the ala'mhigan army) which just leaves the intensity of their training (VIT) or their agility and skill (DEX). Can't figure out for the life of me why PIE for Lance and Polearm... (Actually, now that I think about it, wouldn't PIE make more sense than MND for PLD? It's weird trying to distinguish them thematically...)

Warriors are not distinct in any MMO I've touched. They're a class unto themselves - meaning that they encompass some or all of what other classes bring to the table. IMO that becomes the sole reason for imbalances within the game. It would be better if Warriors were a name of a category and not of an actual class. Then you can flesh out that category: Berserker, Barbarian, Brawler, Fighter, Swordsman, Knight, Samurai, Lancer, Dragoon, Archer, Pikeman, Gladiator, Paladin, Death Knight, Dark Knight, Fencer, etc. I feel the same goes for the Assassin category: Rogue, Thief, Ninja, Sniper, Rifleman, Hunter, Mirage Knight, etc.

When I see the word "warrior", I do not think of it as an occupation or a role. I think of it as a broad label for a group of similar archetypes. But when the developers actually create a class called warrior, they're almost forced to make it the standard template for other physical classes and then go even a step further ... sometimes too far. Warriors from WoW (Vanilla, TBC) are a prime example. Warriors in FFXI had their issues as well (When there are that many classes available, you have a hard time providing class centric philosophies when you are dealing with something so vague and broad)

So, when I saw they have a Warrior class, a melding of Marauder and Gladiator, I was a bit disappointed. Why not Berserker? Or something else?

Actually the spear was the main weapon used by soldiers of the Samurai class purely because they were cheap to make. Naginata were popular in and before the Kamakura Period (13-14th century) because:

      1) It's easy to jury rig one by strapping a broken sword blade to a stick.
      2) Women of the samurai class were trained to use them so the household tended to have one around anyway.
      3) Fighting with one is not dissimilar to quarterstaff fighting which is one thing that the Samurai of that peroid would have trained in.

But even then spears were more widely use purely because they were cheap and easy to replace unlike a sword and it is easier to train people to be competent with a spear than a glaive or halberd. Later on in the Sengoku Period (15th-17th Century) you would see far more spears used alongside matchlocks (Remember it was Oda Nobunaga that more or less invented the pike and shot formation centuries before you saw it in Europe). The ironic part about studying the Sengoku era is that guns were actually used for their intended purpose by the samurai while in Europe is was the Knight class that flat out refused to use them (like they did with the bow and crossbow), and they were seen as a novelty for commoners and not "honourable" knights, until knights basically vanished from the battlefield (to be fair knights tended to consider things such as tactics cheating anyway). The Samurai class in the 16th century pretty much saw that matchlocks could do and said "I HAVE to get one of those". The ones that thought the same as the European Knights of the time likely did not live for long enough to whine.

The bow was always considered the traditional weapon but as you get towards the Sengoku era even then you start to see it in the hands of the common footsoldier more and more often in sources from just before the era. But training people to use a bow takes time and the samurai classes were a big lax in martial training during peace time because they didn't really need it and the commoners were usually far too busy farming for their lord to even bother picking up a weapon until the local lord shoved a spear into your hands and said you had to go fight a war for him.

The Alexander the Great & The Roman Empire would like a word with you as to the effectiveness of spears

No sane army uses a weapon purely because it's cheap & easily produced.
