How's the game doing?

I haven't heard much of the game's popularity since everything went pay to play. How has the game been doing? Is it profiting yet? I'm really considering getting into it, but don't want to get into the game if it's not doing that great. Would suck to have it cancel on me once I started getting into it.

I also need to look into some of the game mechanics to see if they've changed at all, particularly the fatigue system to see how that works.

I think the community is very cheerful and prosperous lately while waiting for FFXIV 2.0 Though it's recommended to wait for FFXIV 2.0 beta and 2.0 launch, since that's what the current FFXIV is moving towards, mew.

Thanks I'll do that, and see how it's going. One of my favorite things about XI and XIV is that you can switch classes with just one character, so you don't need alts to do everything, which is a huge appeal to me because I like being able to do/try everything. I'll see how the game is after 2.0 and give it a shot.

Is there a timeframe for when 2.0 is going to enter beta?

Well, you're pretty much too late to really enjoy the current story. The next update slated for the end of the month will be the last, and then it's on to 2.0

So 2.0 is a story overhaul/update? Or is 2.0 an overall update for FFXIV?

Thanks on the fatigue removal, I thought that system was a little dumb.

2.0 is going to be "a whole new game." Everything is basically going to be different. They are keeping the same jobs, as far as we know, but whole new story line, new maps, new geography, new playstyle, new battles, etc...

Version 2.0 will overhaul pretty much the entire engine. They've been adding bits and pieces of it as new content with each update to 1.whatever, but version 2.0 will be the culmination of all updates to the engine. This new engine will be necessary to enact many of the changes envisioned by Yoshi P, and should bring about much more flexibility in terms of potential content. Beta is tentatively scheduled to start sometime later this year, with a PS3 beta following sometime after. I believe they hope to have it on our doorsteps sometime early next year.

As for its current state, it's still mostly time-gated. Unless you have the time to invest in leveling up and assembling parties, most of the important content will remain inaccessible. *Cue flashback to FFXI* Currently, leveling is still somewhat of a chore, although less of a time sink than it has been in the past.

Like I said, unless you have a lot of friends who can help powerlevel you (because for DoW/DoM classes you can hit 50 pretty damned fast now with a good party - 1 week tops) you're going to be spending too much time soloing leves and trying to get money for new gear & repairs to really enjoy the story - nevermind sign up for a GC, and go through all of those horrors lol...

Shit I still need to finish a few GC quests myself >.<

Yes we're keeping all our stuff, though IIRC Yoshi wants to cut our inventory back down to 100 slots and just 1 retainer which is going to be an utter nightmare for me as I have around 400+ items altogether...
