There's always been overlap. People EXP'd in Sky, Sea, goddamn near everywhere in TAU. I'd imagine that before that people looked at CN/Garlaige the same way.

Honestly, Abyssea does have a load of Notorious Monsters, however, since it's release I've viewed it more as an EXP spot. I mean, you start off with 100~ EXP per mob, and after 4-5 hours, it starts turning into 550-600+; the only long part is reaching that amount. Once you hit 600 EXP per mob, you'll finish the rest of your levels (77-80 most likely) in an hour, and then go on to cap EXP, and 10/10 merits. You're killing EXP level mobs with 18 players, they die in seconds. It's definitely worth spending your time doing.

Do you honestly think before typing seriously? You don't walk in to Abyssea and start earning 90k / hour exp period and considering it takes 181,000 experience points to get from a newly dinged 76 to 80 you sure as Hell won't be getting it in a couple of hours regardless of whether you're in a godly party or not. To the OP, you have a few options. Either find a 75 sync party and churn away on birds for 20-30k an hour and worry about capping your skills later, or you can grab a Misareaux Coast bird party and probably half that previous exp rate. There are other options like trolls but the exp rate there is so fucking atrocious you'll want to cut yourself after 30 minutes.

You did say you weren't getting "Abyssal", did you mean Abyssea? I'll be honest, while it is possible to level the ways I mentioned more and more people are refusing any kind on non-Abyssea exp now because it's simply too good. You may want to consider getting the addon because the exp rate and skillup opportunities, while not as ludicrously high as Malacite claims, are simply without compare anywhere else in the game.

If you do it the right way, the exp apparently does get pretty good. The important thing is to get the right auras in the right order. First you get time extensions, then you get the high exp aura. But you do have to stay in there a couple of hours for the exp rate to ramp up.

I have heard of people having to leave just because they capped their merits.

In a few days (once I get enough stones and time saved up), I'll get to see for myself. Oh yeah, and people DO ask for BLMs and WHMs to go in there.

Not quite, but it has been declining. You still need to be at least 30 to do Abyssea IIRC and nothing gets you up there faster than an Astral Burn.

"Couple of" is an arbitrary unit of measurement, considering the fact that 181k EXP prepatch would take days/weeks for the casual player; I'd accept a "couple" as 6-8 hours, easy.

620 EXP/kill, 1250 in chests..., it's actually quite amazing.

The only problem with Abyssea is what to do with all the merits.

I was about 5k from 78 and after5-6 hours I was 80 capped exp and 7 merits. I would have stayed to cap my merits but I was falling asleep. We were killing Mandies in the Canyon, and yeah you need to cap whatever you need to get the time extensions and then whatever needs to be done to cap exp/cruor. It reminded me of Dyna, only no one really ever was in much danger of dying, and you get tons of exp. insted of loosing it
