I'm having an issue with ffxi that I think is directly related to my video card. I recently reformatted my comp, installed all the proper drivers, etc... However I get this black/jumbled screen whenever ffxi loads up on the title screen after the opening movie. I've googled this and it seems to be a common problem. But no fix has been found I was wondering if someone here might know. Below I've posted the stats and a brief ss of what the issue looks like ![]() =============================== System ================================= CPU = Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.00GHz CPU Speed = 2055 MHz No. of CPUs = 1 OS = Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 Ver 5.01.2600 Version of DirectX = DirectX9.0c Main Memory = Capacity:511MB : Free Space:312MB Graphics Card = RADEON X700 Series Type of Chip = ATI RADEON X700 PRO Video Driver = ati2dvag.dll Version = 6.14.10.6925 Updated = Monday, April 27, 2009 9:40 PM VendorId = 0x1002 DeviceId = 0x5E4B SubSysId = 0x23021002 Revision = 0 VRAM = 256.0MB AvailableVidMem = 250.7MB AvailableTextureMem = 272.0MB Sound Card = Creative SB Live! 1. Did you install the latest drivers or just the ones that come on the CD that came with your video card? I assume you got the latest from the internet, but it never hurts to double check. 2. Does the issue come up in fullscreen mode as well as windowed mode? 3. Have you tried adjusting the graphics settings from the ffxiconfig(via the start menu, not the in-game stuff)? I'm not really sure what happened, but if your setup was working before you reformatted there must be something that changed along the way. I don't know what though.

2. Happens in both full screen and windowed. 3. Yes. I tried the tutorial posted sometime ago in these forums too for video card issues. | |

I'm not really sure what to tell you then. I'd suggest reinstalling stuff but you just reformatted and it all worked before so that wouldn't help. I guess you could at least confirm that it's the video card that's the issue by swapping in a different card to see if the problem clears up. It's not a good solution but at least it would confirm that it's the video card giving you issues.

My Mood: | Re: Video card help. You could try reinstalling DirectX just in case. Also, do you have the opening movie set to turn on every time the game starts? When mine starts it goes straight to the title screen.
