| Complete map of Vana'diel?
I was admiring what is considered the middle land maps of Vana'diel when I ran across this image on FFXIclopedia: ![]() I've only ever seen two world maps, one of the middle lands and one of the near east. Where were these other maps found, and how have they pinpointed cities on the maps? |

yeah its interesting how dot are on the south and west areas, indicating that big cities are there as well.... wonder if we will get to see them, or will it be lost once FFXIV comes out......

Wasn't this brought up ages ago in a previous thread and proven false? I'm positive that map is just a fan-made thing and thus not real. The locations and such are all real and "exist" in the game, but the exact layout has never been determined. Hell, I doubt we'll ever see all the continents which is too bad. XI has a lot of potential left in it, but myself and many others are just bored with the game and want to move on to XIV already. The only way I'd stay on XI now is if SE came up with some massive multi-expansion pack releasing Vana'diel in it's entirety to us. WotG has been pretty cool and all, but it feels like such a low-key way to leave the game off of. I would have liked it better if the last expansion I'd gotten to play was the Far East, or the Mithran homeland but oh well. EDIT: I'd also like to point out that the Yagudo & Summoning Magic actually hail from the Far Eastern continent, and as the map indicates the Orcs originate from the frozen continent. Funny how two of the big 3 Beastman Factions aren't even indiginous to the regions they occupy. |

It could be something that was leeked when FFXI was starting. Probably something that SE was considering to be putting in FFXI before they started it. But Wow... I'd sure love to go into the Gigas Homeland, or Orcs homeland and wander around there for a bit to see whats there. Maybe it might be a leeked image from FFXIV, and some one edited it to look like that? Could you link the page of where you found it from? It would be nice if that is what is coming in the updated... They might be adding that at the last update? <Edit> As Malicite said though... It might as well just be a fake though. Would be nice if It wasn't though.

No, this looks pretty legit to me, I know ive seen this image elsewhere but cant recall. For it to be fake, someone would have to have taken quite a bit of time to manufacture a map of this caliber. Gonna pass the map around, see if any of my other forum trolling buddies remembers it.

I'm telling you it's fake, but I'm too lazy to dig through all the old threads for it.

If Dakattack would post the link to the page that he found the map on, it could prove useful to prove it true or false though.

Judging by your posts, I've learned to NOT trust what you say 90% of the time.

Isn't that Northern Continent just Centra? You can clearly see the impact point of the previous Lunatic Pandora. It isn't, by the way. I still think it's prolly fake. It's pretty easy to make maps like these. look at the adjustments the ffxi-atlas people make to their maps.

this is post-TAU (just look at the near east), but years before FF14 was announced, so there go both of the above theories. yes, there was a thread on it previously, good luck to anyone searching it out. On other continents, the real question isn't whether we ever see them, it's how well discovered they are. The middle lands are very dense in terms of areas, and there's surely more to discover-- I think every expansion has added something to them, except maybe TAU. But look at TAU. Equal in size to at least half the middle lands, but there's not that much in terms of playable space (although it is still pretty damn huge). If SE wanted to rush out the 'end' of FFXI, they could easily get us to the rest of the major areas in one expansion; even just do very short missions if they wanted to. |

Here's the link: The Distant Continents of Vana'diel - FFXIclopedia, the Final Fantasy XI wiki - Characters, items, jobs, and more They explain how we know these places actually exist, but they also make a few connections that aren't well supported. The actual mapping of the continents seems professional. |

Oh... I think I know what it is now... Its just showing you the ENTIRE map, not just the two continents that the game takes place on. Its showing the areas that cant be inhabited as well, or even friendly to the "races" of Vana'diel. But, I'd like to know where the person got the map from though. I am looking up stuff on the wiki ALL the time, yet I never found anything like this before on the wiki though. If you could find out where the person that posted this got the map, then you could find out if its a real map, or just something that some one made up just to show what they think of how the rest of the world in teh game looks.

Trying to find the old thread... I'm positive it was Armando who debunked it as fake (Elmer the Pointy may have as well over @ BG) I've seen this exact map before and we've discussed it, just wish I knew what thread it was in. EDIT: ZAM News Yeah this was posted in other forums back in 2007 and debunked as a Fan Made image that was based on something SE showed at a JP Fan event. I'll say again, the place names are all real as they are referenced by NPCs in the game. The exact layout and shape of the continents as depicted by said map however isn't. Until SE comes out with something official there's no reason to believe otherwise. Last edited by Malacite; 07-13-2009 at 10:43 PM. |
