Re: What's your favorite gimp gear?

I swap it in with the level 68 cobra gear for stat insensitive spells like those. The effect is small but cumulatively noticeable over time imo. Or I could just be seeing what I want to see but my OCD has progressed to the point where I feel gimp if I'm not swapping at least 5 slots per spell, even for refresh and haste.

Re: What's your favorite gimp gear?

You're talking to a WHM who won't set foot outside of their Mog House without RR3, a stack of Echo Drops, Ginger Cookies, my Light Staff and a stack of oils and powers "Just in case"

Unless I'm crafting then I'll probably just settle with RR3 being up. I feel so naked when that isn't on.

Re: What's your favorite gimp gear?

Ever since a certain indecent in Ro'Meave that a WHM friend still won't let me forget about I've made a point of not going anywhere near magic aggro without all of that

Re: What's your favorite gimp gear?

Or you go WHM/NIN. Ninja tools = no magic aggro. Plus you get Utsusemi.

I suppose /DNC and Spectral Jig will work too if you have that unlocked, but I have no idea how good a combination WHM/DNC is otherwise.

Re: What's your favorite gimp gear?

I went whm/dnc once when I was soloing its not fun. took me about 5 minutes to kill an ep seeker bat in qifim. granted your never gonna get killed but its so dull, think i zoned the bat in the end. and I had some noob asking me why a whm would /dnc. the answer was cause I didnt know how slow it was going to be

Sambas overwrite additional effects on weapons which makes the Templar Mace and, Deae Gratia completely useless. Combining Deae Gratia with well timed Regen III's also makes Drain Samba obsolete while Sublimation and Mythic Boon both make Aspier Sambas a novelty at best.

There is little point in using Waltzes on WHM/DNC either. WHM has the lowest DEX of all jobs in the game and only a B+ in Club so it's extremely inaccurate and since WHM DD relies on Hexa Strike and Black Halo for DD you need all of the TP you can get. Waltzes just waste TP getting back tiny bits of HP that you can probably get back with Regen III by the time it takes to get the TP to use Curing Waltz II.

Quick Step and Box Step are meh at best since you have Slow and Paralyse at your disposal and I don't really have that much of a problem landing enfeebs on EP-DC mobs when soloing.

Really the only remotely useful thing you get from WHM/DNC is Spectral jig. But you have sneak and invis and subbing NIN gives no magic aggro either (and is more useful for a WHM as far as survivability goes) but if you go WHM/DNC just for Spectral Jig you might as well just go WHM/RNG for Camouflage, it probably lasts longer too.

EDIT: /DNC is useful for soloing melees since it gives healing capabilities that use TP not MP. But when a WHM subs it they aren't really getting anything that they don't already have and they are actually gimping themselves by using sambas since they overwrite Additional Effects on weapons as well as En-Light

I miss my purple ribbon. I actually wore that a fair bit for appearance before I finally quested Toraimarai access (and thus had to exchange it for blue ribbon). Kamiel has a Rival Ribbon for his PLD tanking gear, so I'll bring along my Blue Ribbon so we can be matched. Ribbons generally are one of the nicer headpieces appearance-wise, particularly for tarutaru. Looks nice, doesn't totally obscure my character's hair (and by extension gender).

Also, some mention should go to War Beret +1. It's a nice piece, but it's technically gimp due to O.Hat (which I don't have). Still, for THF, it comes very close and looks a lot nicer in a number of equipment arrangements. It's also relatively cheap AH gear for what it does (at least it was when I bought it; since the War Beret > Elite Beret upgrade seems to be a major factor in the market for this, I dunno if the HQ-suppressing rings may have changed that...).

Also, full AF sets deserve a broad mention, as most jobs wear their full AF only for looks. I tend to wear Rogue's Vest for appearance's sake on Kumei, even though it never sees much practical use, and looks and heavy-armored-footsteps are the primary reasons to ever put on Chaos Sollerets.

"Dress" gear: War Beret +1, Republic Aketon, Lizard Trousers (just about any normal pants work here), and Dance Shoes. I forget what I was using for gloves at the time, probably THF AF. Now I have War Gloves. This is the kind of stuff I wear if I'm showing up for mission-related stuff, testifying before the senate, etc.

More casual THF gear.
