3 Good Articles from JP Button

Haven't been to the site in a while so I read these 3 articles... they're all pretty good, especially the take on the Crystal Theme throughout the FF series.

JPButton A Light of Hope for A Crystalline Prophecy

JPButton What Are We Paying For?

JPButton Chasing the Crystal

Also, take a gander at this from the 1st link;

Quote:
To the right is an Angel Ring with Accuracy+6 and Pet: Accuracy+4, Ranged Accuracy+4.
Good grief what an awesome ring! The guy got it for getting another Ebony Key (ACP Last Boss). Now I'm curious what else you can get from there O.O

EDIT: Edited for clarity, it's the Ebony Key not prismatic (Prismatic is only for the 3 new bodies)

Re: 3 Good Articles from JP Button

Dunno why people were expecting so much out of a $10 expansion that did exactly what it said it was going to do.

In fact, I think this particular expansion scenario has bigger implications than may be realized now.

I'm looking at "The Last Verse" specifically and a obvious tie-in to the one CoP mission that seemed rather out-of-place. You know, that one in Selbina that everyone was like "WTF does this have to do with anything" over.

I do hope The Shantotto Ascension is a bit longer, but I pretty much expected these to be filler and for that purpose they're not really that bad at all, just something to pass the time between new mission content.

Not to mention the special augments leave a certain incentive to redo the missions and help friends. Some of those rewards aren't shabby at all.

Well, the story content was an absolute fucking joke. ACP really should have been free. It's no worse than the 2-3 WotG they keep adding every now and then between the major missions (christ it was mostly CS and ass-backwards 2004 game mechanics which doesn't surprise me given who's making these things)

For $10 they could have honestly put in more effort. 1/3 the cost of a full expansion with about 1/30 the content.

EDIT: Also, just saw this over @ BG and creamed my pants >_>

Holy shit do want!

Re: 3 Good Articles from JP Button

I rather agree. I figured when I bought it that practically any amount of content would be worth ten bucks, but two fights and barely enough plot to qualify as a story leaves me rather unsatisfied. Sure the armor is great for some jobs but shelling out cash just for the item makes me feel dirty. I might as well be paying RMT to let me lot on some sandworm items or something.

Re: 3 Good Articles from JP Button

I will agree as far as the fights go, there was a bit left to be desired though there were three fights, not two.

I thought the Qu'Bia Arena fight was one of the most enjoyable ones in the game. Dunno why people are scared to redo it, the SAing Goblin wasn't that scary.

Re: 3 Good Articles from JP Button

Mandy fight actually was really annoying to me, I tried it first on RNG and died because they got off a few lucky TP moves together and I couldn't proc bloody bolts on them because their HP was so low. Came back COR and wiping them with Circle Blade wasn't easy either because the joytoy would kill them in one round, probably should have gone with dagger, but I still won that one.

I like the last fight mostly just because it RNG epeen time.

I did that on WHM with Banishga and Banishga II. Was fun!

Re: 3 Good Articles from JP Button

I subbed blu and just spammed battle dance and grand slam. The last few got some pretty nasty hits in but mostly it was just watching turnips fall over.

---------- Post added at 11:01 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:43 PM ----------

I'll give the last fight credit for favoring jobs that normally get the short end of the stick. Getting my group to let me tank as rdm/drk was gratifying. It's a bit of a shame that most people seem to just say screw it and go for the two minute TP burn approach. It's a bit of a shame again that they're able to do so. You can blame the players for depriving themselves of what is arguably a more enjoyable experience that way, but ultimately the behavior of the players at large is predictiable: take the easiest path to the greatest reward. Imo it's the job of the developers to lead the players to better gameplay with that knowledge of their behavior.

Nashmeira's Plea, in contrast, was brilliantly designed. The first part of the fight requires than you bring a solid tank and strong damage sources in at least two flavors (melee/ranged/magic), along with whatever support you require. If you don't have that then you can't even progress to the meat of the fight, for which you've been tricked into using a balanced party of jobs that aren't used to working together anymore. They set up the fight specifically to preclude the bullshit zerging strategies that we naturally gravitate to.

Re: 3 Good Articles from JP Button

The funny thing is, the Seed Crystal builds resistance to Souleater freakishly fast, so no K Club zerging it.

If you could just stun Seed of Judgment then OK, but I favor the Zerg strat. SMN burn is also apparently a favored plan of attack.

Re: 3 Good Articles from JP Button

According to the wiki, Seed of Judgment is effectively unstunnable. You can stun it, but it uses it again right when stun wears. Stun is mainly for the -ga3s. So long as the tank stays out of range of Seed of Deference, the only things you have to deal with >50% are Seed of Nihility and Seed of Deception. Nihility is np and the clones can be taken out by a tier 4 from a blm, sch or pup or from a winder by a rng. If you're using ranged attackers you can avoid Judgment by hugging the door.

But Meikyo Shisui, Hundred Fists, Mighty Strikes et al backed up by Chainspell stunning is faster, easier and more reliable than any strategy you come up with knowing the above information.

I think Souleater resistance is going to be a fixture of any NM or boss mob introduced after the AV zergings.

See, I hate this. Wouldn't it be much simpler to simply remove DRK from the list of jobs that can use K Club? Yea they'd have to change the text and all but I mean if it bothers SE this much, kill the weapon(s) that abuses it rather than the mechanic itself.

Re: 3 Good Articles from JP Button

Then people can just /DRK and use it, with a dedicated mage. Problem not solved.

---------- Post added at 01:24 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:23 AM ----------

Besides, there are other zerg weapons besides K Club. Ridill and MKris are acceptable and good weapons for zerg.

Re: 3 Good Articles from JP Button

kclub is the worst offender, but I'm told other multi-hitters like Ridill and b.zaghnal work almost as well. It's a multidimensional problem.
