Except for the first two chests I got (since I had absolutely no idea what I was doing) I haven't failed to solve a puzzle so far. But I can see why someone would like a little extra help, specially when you get less atempts. I don't like the windower plug-in idea though, but it's not like it would change anything for me. So meh. PS > I usually solve it in 3-4 attempts, but you could say I've just been lucky with my guesses.

I don't understand the point of being "against" the windower plugin... I doubt your dislike is simply a matter of disliking the medium based on a personal taste (e.g. Brand X Cornflakes versus Brand Y), so it must be an ethical thing... How intriguing... How is cheating to solve a treasure casket through a windower plug in any different than using a cheat on, say, a different PC that does the same thing? The suggestion is that the data can merely be hooked up to display in-game. Were you against it based on the idea of "automation" of the treasure casket opening process (e.g. Casket-botting)? If so, considering that the effort required to solve a casket is minimal in comparison to the effort put forth to find said casket in the first place and taking into account that the latter task cannot be automated, how is it ethically different to manually cheat at treasure casket solving as opposed to automated cheating? What's the difference between a windower plug-in that gives you the answer and an external web app that does the same thing? Both are cheating, one is simply more efficient that the others. Does this indicate that the severity of cheating is directly proportional to the increase in efficiency of the process? If so, does that mean that efficiency is unethical? ...or is it that you are simply against windower and therefore anything associated with it? Keeping in mind that I'm not trying to turn this into a "windower is bad mmkay?" thread. My suggestion of said development is merely provided as an interesting port of the application into a different environment; there was no intent to either advocate or protest the use of any 3rd party tool.

You can also get hints without using "attempts" from using Thief's Tools/Living Key/Skeleton Key on the caskets. Yay THF!

Hunting Gothic Gauntlets, my success rate is only around 1/2 simply because the chests won't give enough conclusive clues.

![]() I still got it though, tried 53 followed by 33 and got it open; double same-digit numbers work pretty good for me with that kinda stuff. But still annoying. Not like I'm getting anything good out of them mind you. Potions and Ethers +2 and +3 for the most part. ![]() ---------- Post added at 09:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:41 PM ---------- Quote:
In my opinion the windower should only do that, and the only features I consider not harmful are cosmethic such as changing screen res, AA enabling, dat swap to change the appearance of your char, etc. But like I said it's not like it would change anything for me, so meh. Besides, I don't think my being against that feature would have any impact on it's development.

I just think that S-E should figure out a way to block (not ban) widower users from playing the game, until they get rid of it. As it is against FFXI ToS. But back on topic. I have very bad luck when it comes to getting clues... "The first number is odd." "The first number is 5, 6, or 7" "Its greater than 55" "You have failed to perceive a clue" <- I HATE THAT ONE! lol But anyways... I wouldn't really down load an app to help me figure them out. I usually just sit there and fool around with them, and use the numbers in my head. when I get clues that are useful, then I have no issue opening them. But when I get useless clues, like the pattern listed above, I have issues. Anyone can do these when they get the right clues. But some may choose to use the App, its up to them, I just wont. Well that's just my 2 cents...

Heck, this file is just good for taking notes on what the casket clues tell you so you can remember without having to worry about chat scrolling it off the screen. You don't have to write it down, and it's faster than typing. Granted, someone with NotePad open could still do effectively the same thing.
