Follow any goblin digger around on your chocobo and you'll see him dig something up eventually. Doesnt really take that long... I've done that once and got some decent stuff IIRC.

Re: FFXI Subtle and/or Polish Details

I never got why people started to use the term "polish" to describe games. Like "this is a highly polished game" or "they spent too long polishing it". What the hell does it all mean? Is it that annoying shiny overbloom effect you see on textures on next gen games like Halo 3 or Fable 2 because that is more annoying that everything being brown.

Re: FFXI Subtle and/or Polish Details

No its little details that obviously took the game maker's team some extra care or special attention.

Re: FFXI Subtle and/or Polish Details

/

I keep reading "FFXI subtitles and/or Polish details"

I'm also surprised no one has mentioned the old stuff like those posters in Norg or the Old man's room, or the more obvious stuff in places like (Sky).

Re: FFXI Subtle and/or Polish Details

I dont think this is a necro but I have found another nice detail in FFXI. I was leveling(BST)/mining in Ifrit's Cauldron (sp?) and happen to be running pass the mouth of the volcano when it errupted.

Since I was trying to avoid aggro, the camera was not facing the mouth of the volcano. I thought I aggroed something big....I mean really big and it was doing some super WS. When I quickly turned the camera around, you can see the magma shooting past me and up into the sky. The Dual Shock 3 controller nearly rumbled out of my hands.

I wonder can you see the volcano erupting from other locations/zones.

Re: FFXI Subtle and/or Polish Details

And there's a lot of detail that gets lost due to drawing distance limitations.

Like the Jeuno bridges or the way you can see a lot of details from Mount Z. and other regions of Aht Urgan from a distance.

How the sky and the weather affect everything, how for instance Ants in Altepa get an aggro distance increase (by a lot) while there's a sandstorm going.

How detailed the water is in some areas with sea life and other stuff.

Etc. etc.

It really shows how limited SE has been by the PS2, but at the same time that's the kind of hardware limitations that improve resourcefulness.

/poke God of War

It's going to be very interesting to see how detailed areas from XIV will be.
