Error 2003

So I login about 2 hours ago; was in Lower Delkfut. Kill a few gigas on BLU and decide to go to FoV out in Qufim. Zone into QI, get error: FFXI-2003, Failed to Read data.

Oh boy. Logout, try loggin in without Windower. Same issue. Log back out to POL, and run a file check. Tells me theres 1 corrupt dat and that I can have POL reinstall it for me. Great. Wait for it to do another 15min check, starts installing, gets 96% done, error: Cannot install ROM/24/63.dat. Sweet.

Try same process 4 more times with same results. POL's suggestion: Fully reinstall software. I sez to that: Noooot gonna happen.

Make a GM call, wait 30 mins for an award winning answer: "Please contact tech support through phone, email, or internetz." No thanks.

Then I get the idea of copying FFXI/ROM/24 to my shared docs folder on my laptop, and grabbing the folder on my laptop. Try to copypasta the folder, error: "Access denied. Make sure disk is not full or write-protected." turns out, I can remove every file inside ROM/24 except 63.dat. Bitchin'.

Back to the drawing board... Restart computer, run a CHKDSK, and log back into windows. Problem solved apparently. I fully delete the folder ROM/24 and replace it with the folder from my laptop. Boot up Windower, login, and poof! I'm standing in Qufim outside the tower, 2hrs later with my LFG flag still up; and still no fecking clue as to what happened.

I was out in Qufim not more than 20 hrs ago (I have an irregular sleep schedule) and all was fine. Point of this thread is to see if anyone else has experienced this, has any idea what caused it, or if you want to make fun of me?

In the end, I'm left with a slight feeling my 250GB drive is getting a little shaky and my need some replacing soon if I'm having issues with corrupt indexes and shit. This is like the 5th time in a month I've had to run CHKDSK on bootup. Hm.

edit: oh boy even more fun. Now, when I try to touch the Field Manual in QI, POL.exe crashes. I'm assuming this is because the files I copied from my laptop have not been updated with the latest version update. Back to the POL file check screen for another 25 min session of file checks. All I want to do is make some exp while trying to get grand slam from the gigas. rawr

Hello Ameroth,

When you did chkdsk, did it display errors or did it came up clean?
best way to check to see if your drive is going bad, is to check the SMART.
SpeedFan
This program will tell you what is going on with your drive and other things as well.

yeh, it cleaned up 1 file and then all seemed well.

And I just finally got everything working gravy again. I'm so glad I spent the past 3 hours doing this shit, and not getting to lv31 and definitely not getting grand slam.

fail.

Re: Error 2003

Yep, similar thing happened to me. Had to copy files over from my son's pc to get it to work again. About a week later, my hd went pfffft and I had to get another and reinstall. Not saying yours will but..............
