Re: Another Epic Dev-Team Interview!

So let's see...

Wanting to nerf Campaign exp? Booo.

Buffing Drg WS, and in particular Drakesbane is kinda meh. It's already powerful, and Penta/Skewer are already pretty decent with decent gear, so I'm not seeing the need. I don't exactly like the, "Sam are considered powerful, so buff the rest of the DD jobs to match" mentality.

The rest of it sounds kinda interesting though.

Re: Another Epic Dev-Team Interview!

I thought of Callisto when I read this:

In Japan, you mentioned improvements in Storage. Can we expect a future of 160 or 240 Storage spaces?

Tanaka: Multiples of 80. With the limits of PS2 memory, and the need for the entire storage list to be in memory at once, we are stuck at the initially planned limit, 80 slots. We think there could be a kind of switch and you could replace slots in the list from outside, but how it would work or be implemented is still in the planning stages.

I think what users really hope for is more on-hand inventory. Something like, “Today I’m going White Mage, so I’ll take my WHM bag with me.”

Tanaka: It’s still early in the planning stages, but we think that’s the way we’ll have to do it. The inventory limit for users is at 70 now, so there’s still 10 spaces free. We still have room for improvement.

So, first you’ll expand to 80, and then you’ll experiment with replacement systems?

Tanaka: Yes, that’s right. We making preparations now to do so. I can’t even consider now what shape it will take in the end, however. I had thought more people would want to raise a second character. I didn’t think so many would have second, third, and more and more jobs all on the same character. The number of people with 10+ jobs is constantly growing, so we need to respond to that.

That may be so, but I thought the existence of Maat’s Cap was an encouragement for people to level many jobs on one character and enjoy having such a variety to which to Job Change.

Matsui: That was a complete afterthought. We had no reason to plan something like that from the beginning, and it was after we were astounded by the growing number of players with multiple level 75 jobs, that the idea came to add it as a reward.

Players don’t really have the tendency to increase their number of characters.

Gondai: No, they don’t. That’s the kind of system it has become. Support Jobs too, with all the combinations you can make, have players wanted to raise those jobs on their current character.

Obviously I'm pretty excited about the thought that they're actively looking to increase inventory/storage, and not just in terms of gobbybags. I garauntee you it'd take me roughly 5 seconds to fill an extra 10 inventory spots on RDM just with gear I currently leave in my MH that I don't want to.

Just last night I was saying how I'm having gil-making trouble and I can't go mining because I don't have enough inventory space. A LSmate suggested I mule my BRD gear, which to me was absurd. The thought that just because BRD was among the jobs I chose to level I should be forced to spend 30 minutes shipping things back and forth between 2 characters every time I wanted to play BRD or try to make gil was ridiculous to me. I'm glad to know that they realize this is a real issue and they're working on it.

I'm still kind of meh about the melee RDM/WHM update, while I'm sure it'll be nice for my own purposes, just thinking about the absurd amount of retardation people will have to endure from players who will think that just because they can melee as RDM or WHM that it's always the right thing to do. Last night we did an Om'yovra with 4 people before Limbus. Initially we were all meleeing, and I had no trouble hitting it since I actually had all my melee gear on me and was getting a Hunter's...but guess what? 3 people swinging Joyeuses at a big baddie in fact is not always the best option, and we almost wiped until I peeled off and stopped feeding more TP than what was neccesary.

On top of this I can just imagine the wave of gimps with shitty RDM melee gear that will be trying to melee, and shudder at the thought of the oncoming assault Jaeger Rings, NQ Amemet Mantles, Vendor's Slops, and Ogre Gloves that we are going to experience.

So is mine. HQ Amemet isn't worth the gil. Better spent on shit like Dusk. And anyone who tells me otherwise can kindly fuck off because I'm not spending almost 200k on an extra 5 Attack until there's nothing left for me to invest in =P

Job-specific inventory would be so hardcore it sounds almost like a dream after so many years of inventory slavery.

since you're likely not changing your back as a melee for awhile its a great investment imo

That would be great.

Except for all that stuff that I have shared between BLM and RDM

-------------

Ok, now I'm going to throw my hat in with the +1 isn't worth it.

NQ - 3k
HQ - 150k

Difference 5 ATT and 5 RATT 1 STR and 1DEF. I'm really not seeing how it's worth it.

/and I *like* my Ogre Gloves damn it.

Might be 6 Attack depending on your current STR. And per usual, I just say get all of the above, lol.

Actually I had NQ on my RNG mule for awhile, but when ENM dropped a Forager's I let my partner take it in return for his HQ to give my mule.

And not to say that NQ can't get the job done, but I mean more the issue of how many RDMs will be all HAYYY LOOK I CAN MELEE NOW THEY GAVE US ABILITY AND SAID TO USE SWORD without investing any time/gil/effort into their melee gear. Even SAMs and WARs don't do awesome damage with terrible gear, RDM just has it that much harder from their natural deficits in melee stats that they are even more dependant on shiny whiteboxed gear to get some actual production out of their meleeing.

That would be fine if all I had to keep in my locker was staves/yigit/AH-able stuff, and could have some sort of job-specific locker or bag to keep my AF+1/Relic/job-specific weapons/-->INSTRUMENTS<--/job-specific food in.
