I've had FFXl up and running on my PC for a while now, but in that time, I haven't really been playing much because I had bought Lord Of The Rings Online and have become more and more addicted to playing that now, instead of FFXl.

After a few weeks of playing L.O.T.R.O, I got into thinking..... well I'm going to keep FFXl setup on my PC and I will just play that at weekends only while I play L.O.T.R.O during the week. But lately, I have found that situations and events I have been involved in e.t.c... with L.O.T.R.O have really deterred me from playing FFXl altogether, even at weekends. (and with the new release of the Mines Of Moria expansion in November, I feel I wont be able to keep away from L.O.T.R.O at all!) And so, for this reason, I feel it best that I should close down my account with FFXl.

My situation here, has meant that I have also been paying my monthly fee on a game which I have not been playing..... which is probably quite pointless as you can see. So all the more reason to cancel my Content IDs with the game.

As I typed in the title for my thread, a list of similar threads to mine came up, (which I think Is rather handy indeed by the way!) and on reading through them... one of them did successfully answer one of the questions I have, but I still have another question which no one on there has asked. So without further ado.... here's my question.

If you cancel your Content IDs with FFXl and have not played in absolutely ages, (say a couple of years or more for e.g.) and you find that your characters you played with (because you have levelled them up and made them rather good over the years you have played) have been deleted from the account.... is it an easy process to get them back if you ever decide to come back and play FFXl again?

What do you have to do in order to get your characters back again?

For those of you who have cancelled and come back again later on, I would like to know what your experience is of this please?

Check this thread, anyone Recovered their deleted Content ID/character??? SE's supposed limit is 3 months, but under certain circumstances its 3-12 months. You might want to call SE to be sure as they can probably give you a definite answer (although you may have to talk to 2 different people to see if they both say the same thing.) I think your problem is the reason I don't play other MMO's saying its hard enough to balance FFXI and regular games lol. I beat Fable 2 and Saint's Row 2, if I wasn't playing FFXI I'd either be buying Fallout 3 or playing Disgaea 3 atm.

I cancelled my content IDs in about February of this year. I was able to reactivate the IDs last month without a single issue/problem. Hope that helps.

Most people who cancel their ids never get their characters deleted. It's the people who cancel their accounts and delete the characters themselves who have problems coming back. Just cancel your Content IDs and everything will be fine.

If you choose to cancel your Content IDs make sure you don't cancel your POL ID because you can't get that one back so easily. Also you don't get charged for your POL ID so there's not much point in cancelling it.

I had my IDs canceled for over 8 months and came back with no problem. So long as you keep your POL ID (since it's free, why not?) I don't think it's much of an issue with deletion.

Which LotRO server? >.>; My b/f and I play on Laurelin. (European servers. lawl)

Best thing to do is just go to your membership and just cancel your content ID's only, this oes not delete your characters, it just stops the payment. If you feel like you want to play again, you just reactivate them, thats what I did after 9 months off from the game and everything was there as I left it.

What everyone else said but I noticed they didn't have as long as a break as I did. I stoped playing for 15 months and my characters were still there.


(Just don't do what I did) I gave all my gil and items to a friend when I quit who doesn't play any more so when I came back I had nothing, no gil, no armor, no weapons, nothing. I've been farming to make gil to replace the armor and weps but it's painful.

At least your friend had quit. If he was still playing when you got back, you might have had to deal with the added drama of a strained relationship over that gil in addition to still being broke.

I took a similarly long break a few years ago and had my characters intact when I returned. I don't think they delete them at all.
