FFXI Never ending?

Ok I am know I am new to FFXI, but still I know it has been around for almost 7 years. I am just wandering how many people still play this game, also is this game like never ending, or is it going to end with the latest expansion pack? I don't really see that many new players on it, that and all the high levels are just either selling stuff in Bazaars, or just chatting up a storm.

All online games are never-ending.

You just do the same crap all over again and again until you get X item or when the servers get turned off, or when you quit.

There's 6000+ players alone on Odin this week (which got congested). And most other servers average 3000-4000 depending on time, so you've got a fair amount of people on...

Like she said.. this game still has some life left on it. And well I just restarted the game, and I am having alot of fun. You should feel confident with the future of thi game

Nah, the end is coming soon. I expect to hear an announcement about it sometime around the 1st of April.

It's not going anywhere any time soon. As far as age, the original Everquest and Ultima Online are both older than FFXI and are still actively supported and played.

SE has stated they will continue developing for FFXI as long as there is interest in it. As LadyKiki noted, the servers are still pretty well packed. While there may not be as many new players, there have been quite a few returning players lately as well. SE also has continuously made changes to the game in order to make it more accessible to new players.

The first sign of 'the end' so to speak would be forced server consolidation. Until that happens, consider the game to be quite alive and kicking. Even if they condensed some servers together, most games will last quite a while afterwards. I'm expecting FFXI to be around for a while still.

Starting a new MMO and keeping your old MMO alive aren't necessarily mutually exclusive.

Even then, it would still just mean that it had a few years left. Iirc even Everquest and UO had to merge servers, but as pointed out they're still going.

Why? They can just make alternate MMOs, like they're doing, and keep FFXI running for those that still play it.
