70 level cap and my ignorance

I just found out yesterday that you only need to break the level 70 cap once. (You can tell I am just getting a second job past 70). I was building a exp buffer in case I have to do the 70 cap fight a few times and then the following conversation happens in the LS:

I shouted over the LS channel, "Finally have a buffer to do the level 70 cap fight for BLU. Now comes the painful farming just to get level 71"
A LS member says, "Dont you have a level 75 BLM?"
I reply, "Yes..."
He says, "You dont need to do the level 70 cap fight to get to level 71 if you already have a job that is 71+ "
He continues, "You only reasion do the fights to get Maat's cap"
I say, "...seriously or are you messing with me?"
He replies, "Just try it and see if you dont believe me =P"

I didnt really believe it so I level my BLU in campaign. After getting my butt handed to me on a silver plater by Mr. Softstep a few times, *bing* level 71. All this time (Start date is Summer of 2005) I thought you had to do the level 70 fight for each job to get to level 71. Almost 3 years of playing and I am still learning the basics...raw ignorance >.>

I thought that for a long time too when I first started playing. But that was a while back. You also wouldn't have needed to do the fight on BLU if you were going for a Maat's cap. Since you don't fight Maat.

FFXI is a constant learning process. Don't feel bad!

BTW - BLU, COR, PUP, SCH and DNC don't count towards the Maat cap.

Sorry to dreail the topic, but do you have to do the limit breaks for every class? Like break 55 on WHM just to have to break 50 on BRD?!

Once you complete a limit break you have that max level for all jobs.
