Wheres the best place for a noob like me to level up?

I'm level 8 and I have been leveling in South West Ronfaure and Gheltsba (spelling?). Where should I level up now or should I keep leveling up in the same places? Where should I go after I reach a certain level? Whats the easiest way to level and make gil? Thank you

Continue to level in la thiene plateau until level 12 or so. At level 12, go to Valkurm Dunes. The easiest way to level is to... level. To make money... Sell what you find on monsters. It adds up.

Re: Wheres the best place for a noob like me to level up?

Stay in those zones for now. They are good until around level 10 (you could keep going but most people move on after this point). You can do more soloing in La Theine Plateau at that point, or you can start your first true party experience in Valkurm Dunes! (Unless you have a "power level," then it's not really true experience yet. But I'll ignore that.)

If you decide to take the party route, I strongly recommend that you go seeking and let someone else invite you rather than try and start one up on your own. It takes time to learn party dynamics and proper party setup.

Off topic, but a word of warning, most people level in Valkurm Dunes between level 10 and 15. This is divided into two camps, one that fights lizards and goblins and another that fights crabs. (There is a third camp that fights pugils and flies, but there have only been 2 or 3 occasions that I've leveled at this camp.) Anyway here's the important part: Since you are coming from the north (San d'Oria) you will have to pass through a small tunnel to reach camp #1. In this tunnel there are two sets of Sand Bats. These aggro by sound, and it is nearly impossible to avoid them without Sneak from a White Mage or Silent Oils (available on the Auction House). Or you can just ask someone to kill them for you.

Best way to make gil would be to farm the mobs in the nearby area and sell the drop items for profit. If you are going to sell on the Auction House it is best to sell items in stacks of 12 rather than singles. Look at the items you’ve collected and then look them up on the Auction House. Take note of the more the profitable items and how often they sell, then head back out and get some more!

You can reach Valkurm Dunes by passing through La Theine Plateau (West Ronfaure > La Theine Plateau > Valkurm Dunes) but before you go there head over to J-8 to the Crag of Holla. Here you can find a floating crystal similar to a Home Point crystal. Click on it and you will aquire and key item, which is a required item to be able to teleport to this point via Teleport-Holla.

Yes, the Crag of Holla is in La Theine Plateau. It's a huge white building-looking thing, you can't miss it. You'll find platforms around the perimeter of it, one of which has the crystal in question.

White Mages get the spells Teleport-Dem, Teleport-Holla, and Teleport-Mea at level 36 (and other teleport spells later, but let's not get ahead of ourselves). These spells teleport the White Mage's party to those respective telepoints/crags. If you don't have the key item from the crag in question, you can't be teleported there by those spells.

You might be able to use this from San d'Oria now and then, if a WHM happens to be around and in the mood to teleport (usually for a fee, usually 1k gil and up). More likely, you won't be using the telepoints much until you've made your way to Jeuno and are using that as your base of operations. Especially with the outpost teleportation that's available.

Re: Wheres the best place for a noob like me to level up?

Since you don't have a sub job, soloing will soon become harder and harder for you. I wouldn't rely on soloing past 10-12, though it won't hurt to solo while you seek parties if you don't want to be idle or want to make the most of your time.

Be forewarned: many people in Valkurm Dunes are idiots. Most of them are idiots despite having been around the block a couple of times, so to speak. Be willing to learn from others, but don't take EVERYTHING you're told in the dunes at face value.

Re: Wheres the best place for a noob like me to level up?

You can actually level to 15 in newbie areas, those last few levels involve killing a lot of mobs for 15-30 exp or so, however. On the other hand, the mobs in newbie zones have very little hp compared with mobs elsewhere, so you end up blowing through them like they're nothing once you get new gear at the 10-12 stage. I actually solo'd to 20 on WHM. It's not easy, and it's boring, but it's doable. I could take on EM Zu's in Buburimu Penn at the end there.

Re: Wheres the best place for a noob like me to level up?

I always solo/duo to 15 in La Thiene Plateau before I worry about trying to get into a full exp party. It's certainly not the quickest route to go to level up, but in my experience full parties sub-15 in Valkurm are horrible. Not because of people's skill necessarily, but because at those low levels there just isn't really a whole lot available to anyone yet. With the right setup, you could get more exp in a duo then in a full party (ESPECIALLY a dunes party), and if you're conservative, it is much safer.

My suggestion is to try and find someone with a mage job that's willing to duo with you in La Thiene. Make sure you have signet on at all times (available from the gate guards), this allows you to get crystals which you can sell at the A.H. to make you some money as well. If you're alone, avoid the Funguars and Mage type enemies, they poison and it's a tossup whether or not you're gonna outlast it (I've died many times due to poison at low level), or at the very least buy some antidotes to bring with you. You may go through them rather quickly though, so I always avoid them personally, it's cheaper.

My method is slower, sure, but it'll get you more drops you can sell for gil, and with gil comes better gear and a better playing experience.

As for getting to Valkurm quickly, I would recomend doing a supplies run to the Valkurm outpost. Check the Region Info/Conquest in your menu...if Sandy controls the Zulkheim region (the area will have the little red San d'Oria symbol on it)) then talk to the same gate guard you do for signet and tell him you'd like to go on a supply mission to Zulkheim. Then get to the outpost in Valkurm and just talk to the R.K. or T.K. out there and you'll have it done. Once you do that, as long as SOMEONE has control over Valkurm (not the beastmen, but if Bastok or Windurst has it it doesn't matter) you can teleport directly to the outpost (and back home to Sandy) for a couple hundred gil. It saves SO much time.

Sorry so long...good luck! ^^

King Ranperre's Tomb is decent through about 15 as well. You'll want to make sure you stay in the first couple areas though. Once you get past the first large open area upstairs, the mobs get progressively tougher. It's a good place to make some early gil though as gobbies often have some decent drops.
