Hello, i have just picked up a buddy pass from a friend and i wanted to know what the most popular or the best server to chose is? I'd like to have enough players that are leveling for me not to have a problem getting a group as a whm.

No, j/k, I really don't know that there is a "best" server.

Honestly though, unless the world is coming to an end or you're somehow logging into a server during a maintenance, I would be extremely surprised if you had to wait too terribly long for an invite on WHM.

Oh, and uh, feel free to come to Garuda if you want.

if your friend is already playing why not join the server he's on? Or are you both looking for a server to start together?
Honestly, most server populations aren't too terribly different and getting a party as a whm won't be too much of a problem for the majority of your leveling career. (it'll get rough regardless of your server once you're in the 70's)
There are some variation between servers specifically at endgame, but I know little to nothing about that. I believe its BBQ that has been on several servers and has more of an opinion about that. He might be able to tell you more.
Synopsis of what I was trying to say: For the most part every server is pretty much the same and I'm confident you'll make friends on whichever server you choose. Populations are also pretty similar and although most people already have jobs at endgame, many are leveling lower level jobs and a whm is usually a job that is in high demand.

I had one last one - I just finished installing the game, but for some reason, when i click the PoL application i get this error - Error code = 20008003
PlayOnline Viewer cannot run under current operating system. I'm using vista ultimate x64.

For Vista you need the specific version of POL to work for it. I can't post html links (I don't think), but if you go to playonline.com and then go to Platforms > Windows there will be a link that says:

Support for Microsoft Windows Vista

Try that.

If that doesn't work.....I don't know >.<

I just finished downloading the patches and all, but for some reason i cannot change the resolution of the game. How do i do this? usually it's in game but it isn't there. I thought i could use the FFXI config i read about, but i don't have that in game or out of game.

ffxiconfig is a separate program - open the start menu and type that in the search bar.

I've been playing for a while now, but when i look at screen shots other people post it looks like they are playing at better graphics then i am. I have everything maxed, and i've even forced aa and other stuff too. The game still doesn't look as good as maybe this screen shot i've seen -

You may also need a specific version of graphics drivers, depending on what video card you have.

Do you guys think that just starting to play FFXI is a bad idea? I mean, won't it be hard to get groups to do old stuff like windurst rank missions from 1-5? Or doing the sub job quest? or any of the others i forget?

Nope, there will always be people who are willing to do stuff with you. People switch nations to do Rank missions for other countries all the time and getting subjobs, advanced jobs etc is no problem if you have friends.

Server wise mot servers are the same until you get into the endgame aspects of the game. Some servers have plenty of people to party with but the camps are always full once you get into the 50's. The over crowding becomes worse the higher you get up. Also it depends on when you play, but more or less every server is the same when your new.
