We have recently had two issues with security on this site, that deserve mention. The first involved a spam link that had been nefariously inserted into one of our news listings, that directed to an unsavory site. The link was removed, and steps have been taken to prevent further attacks of that nature.

We have also had some spam in the comments, from people linking to alleged fishing bots and other such programs, that were designed to steal FFXI accounts. Those comments have been removed, and further effort put into weeding them out if they show up down the road.

We take security seriously, and appreciate everyone who let us know about these issues. If you see any other problems like these, don't hesitate to leave feedback letting us know.

In other news, we do have some updates coming that will expand the item database, and add various useful guides. These will arrive in the new year. Happy Holidays!

It's old news, and the site is still missing newer equipment like Iron Ram Shield, Pilgrim's Tunica, Dream Boots (+1), etc. The database hasn't been updated for Dancer or Scholar at all, as far as I can tell.

Somepage is just not the site to send people to for equipment search anymore. (I'm slowly working on a more updated food guide to replace the one on that site as well, but I probably won't post that guide on Dreams.)

That really would have sucked to loose that search. Hopefully it gets updates again now.

Unless you can point me to a site that lets me search for items (especially gear) that meets specific conditions (for free,) Somepage will remain my favorite site. Hopefully it won't take them long to update their database.

FFXIclopedia does the trick for me. I can search just about anything and it tells how to craft/obtain the items and what quests they're used for.

FFXIclopedia works well for many things and I use it a lot, but it doesn't exactly let me search for pieces of gear equippable by A job and B race, for C gear slot, containing D stat boost, between a level range of Y to Z. And that's terribly convenient.

In 10 seconds, list all the gear a BLU can equip between levels 10 and 17 that have STR+ modifiers.

Or list all the gear that is BLM JSE.

Or list all the weapons that have VIT modifiers, positive or negative. Now just positive.

Wiki is good for when you know what piece of gear you're looking for. Somepages search is geared towards finding what gear fills a set of criteria.

Ahh. For really refined searches like that, the only website I can think of is allakhazam premium, but unfortunately, that comes with a fee.

Until Somepage actually does update its database and search front end, it's a bit irresponsible to recommend it, IMO.

I really missed somepage for this very search capability. I was updating my macro books a couple of weeks ago (something I had been putting off doing since the WotG update added macro books). Part of that was adjusting my gear swap macros for BST for 20 cap, 30 cap, 40 cap, etc.

It was really difficult for me to remember what particular axes I should use for those various level caps, as well as other gear slots.

I don't know why you would consider it "irresponsible". If there was a chance the site was still a point of infection for keyloggers, I might consider it irresponsible. But just because the database is incomplete?

Being able to do a more powerful search on even a subset of items in the game can be a useful tool.

Yes, completeness and accuracy are important.

For example, sending a would be Scholar or Dancer to that site would be utterly silly, as Somepage has no provision for those jobs. Even beginner WHM, RDM, or BLM would suffer, because they'd miss out on Pilgrim's Tunica (as we often advocate hMP over MP here, it an item we'd want people to consider.)

IMO, it would better to tell people to use FFXIAH's "power search" function instead, until when and if Somepage is able to get its database and search front end updated.
