DSL here, good connection, also after midnight and I'm still getting a good bit of congestion here and there. Pauses b/w files. Going from 1 hour to 5 to unknown...

Seems to me there's a bit more to this than just alot of people downloading the update. Especially now, hours later. owell, I'll just leave it on, go to bed and it should be done when I get up to go drop off my bills. Haha.

People don't seem to understand that people all over the world are trying to download the same thing. Of course it'll get slow sometimes.

Well, no, I understand, but my problem lies with this taking longer to download than any update I've ever done (including first install), and I often update the very minute the servers come back up. I've never had a 10 hour wait. And the lag in the downloading is quite noticible.

People all over are always downloading this stuff at the same time, but this is abnormally sluggish.

Do you know the file size of this update?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but 100 MB's is kinda large for an update, no?

Either way, you can go do something while it updates, like go out to lunch/dinner with a friend, or something.

Here's the strange thing... My wife and I are both running XP Pro, she has the faster computer as mine is quite dated... yet my download will be finished in about an hour, and hers will be finished in roughly eight and a half hours. I got about a... oh... I'm guessing 30 minute head start or something, but that shouldn't account for over seven hours difference.

We've both been forced to reconnect several times since my ADSL blows ass, so unless the server you're assigned to is account specific I don't think we could be getting different servers... What could cause that?

Remember the old days of not being able to connect to POL for 2 days to get the download after patches?

Mine took about 5 hours, and I started it like 15 mins after it was up. I played FF12, then went to bed. Woke up, it was downloaded!

My GF got disconnected 3 times when she got home from work. She gave up for the night. I'm going to leave my downloading while I go to work in 20 minutes. :D

I started downloading the update at 5 PM PST on my PC and walked away, thinking I'd give it 45 minutes or so (as usual) and it would be ready to play. I checked on it after an hour and I was at about 10% with 9+ hours left. I have a brand new, fast PC with high speed internet. Ended up canceling the download because my husband wanted to play WoW.

I then started up my PS2, hoping for better luck. The download/install on my PS2 took about 4 hours. I won't have time to log in tonight, but I can't wait to try out duoing or trioing tomorrow. And to see my wyvern's emotes!

Friend ingame and his gf both started d/l'ing at the same time. He cancelled the d/l then restarted it and got it all in like 20 minutes. She was still sitting at 10 hours, regardless of what she attempted.
I'm sitting at 5 hours right now, and thats after watching a movie and doing some other stuff. Its about time for bed anyway, but its definately POL side, regardless of how good your connection is. Ran a speed test earlier and I'm still getting the usual 7000kbps d/l speed. I think it was a year or two ago when they used to be this bad. I'm not sure if they're having server problems or what. Could also be with all the changes to items and all the new stuff, people were wanting to get on soon and the mass of downloading is slowing everything down, but I don't know if thats really the case or not. Updated content wouldn't cause all this by itself, I wouldn't think.
Oh well, time for bed, hopefully it will be done tomorrow.

Fast computer, DSL, started at 0630 local, I'm *IN* Japan (Aomori prefecture, to be precise), and I'm *still* only at 29% total. Granted, I've had to reconnect several times throughout the day, as I've been in and out of the house all day randomly, but still, this *is* rather sluggish. Must be some pretty hefty files (prolly mostly the database and background programs for Nyzul Isle, as random dungeons tend to take up a lot of space, data wise).

At any rate, it's ~1700 local as I make this post, and my POL is showing 54 minutes left. That means it's time to bust out the FFVIA and get ready to lay waste to Kefka's plans yet again for the Nth time (6 will *never* get old; it's just that damn good of a FF).

My system indicated 10-11 hours and I started it 4 hours ago. it's now at 6h 58m 49%. The Xbox loading that started 30 minutes later is at 27% and the last system to be started 30 minutes ago is showing 1h 10m to go. This is a wierd update, but ah well it's time for me to sleep I'll let the systems sort themselves out overnight. (Connection is dsl with 4 meg connection)

Mine's indicating 2 hours 13 min. to go, and I started it earlier in the afternoon before going out for dinner with a friend. It's not quite 4am here, so it has taken a while. I'm gonna get more sleep, hopefully it should be up by the time I wake up...

Nope started downloading last night at about 10pm GMT 2000 odd files, and had 4 hours on the clock, I canceled the download at midnight where it said 3 hours left and I'm european, Murphy you may have jsut court it when the files were just set ready to download before the rush of players. I will wait a cope of days and its should be fine. Its not that I'm playing FFXI at the moment anyway, am playing FFXII and enjoying every minutes all characters up to lvl 30 and the Liscenece board is half filled. about to get second avatar soon.

God, I get it all set up to DL overnight, wake up and turn on the TV and what do I see? "Network Congestion. Would you like to retry?".

I hate my frigging internet. Charter 3 meg service, most I've ever pulled down in a test is 2200 kbps...in practice I've never gotten above 900k. I was thinking of upgrading to the 10 Meg service they offer now but that means an extra $50 on my cable bill (which is already $150) and I just don't know if it's worth it. Starting to think maybe...
