should we be paying for raises??

I am wondering if when we are raised should we be paying some form of compensation for it? I'm not suggesting that every whm and high lvl rdm start charging, but am wondering if it is proper to ask for a raise and then not expect to have to pay anything. I realize the theme of the game is helping people out, but I bring this up for the times when the same people need raises mult. times in the same place. This situation came up in my linkshell last night1 of my linkshell mates was partying in the dunes and members of his party needed a raise no more than 5min after needing a 1st raise) This is just 1 example but if u are a WHM or RDM it seems like all u do in the dunes is raise. The member of my linkshell that was helping everyone said that it was more work than his real life job.) It just made me think that maybe some players are abusing someone elses kindness. I'm not saying that we should have to pay for every raise but if someone needs more than 1 an Hr they may want to give a few gill(at least). Just something to think about during the downtime--

Re: should we be paying for raises??

I don't think we should start paying for raises. It hasn't been that way so there is no reason to start doing it now. If I happen to raise someone and they offer me gil I politely decline the offer.

Re: should we be paying for raises??

Well, people are far too dependent on raises in the dunes anyway. There was a time when you just home pointed (to your HP in the dunes) and just made up the lost exp in the time that you would have been waiting for your raise weakness to wear. But now everyone expects to be raised, and they rarely set their Home Points anywhere near by.

But no, I don't think folks should start charging. Unless they want to, of course. But if I don't want to raise someone I just tell them that, rather than do something I don't want to do.

Re: should we be paying for raises??

The way things used to be, if someone wanted compensation, they'd ask for it. Personally, using Raises any time before Qufim seems like an enormous waste of time, and even in Qufim it's a bit iffy; just set your HP at a nearby outpost and be done with it if that's what you're going to do... or go to Korroloka Tunnel, which is far more accessible than Valkurm.

I know that personally I don't mind Raising people I see on my travels if I'm just passing by and not in a hurry, but I generally won't go out of my way to do so regardless of the compensation offered.

Re: should we be paying for raises??

I'm with u ice--as a rdm with sneak/invis I have started to escort my linkshell buddies(I would never think of charging). I guess my question then is how often is too many times to be needing to be raised in a certain time frame(is 3 times in 15min too many or is that still exacptable(the same guy last night needed 3 raises for himself in 15min). Also, how many times should someone ask for a raise if they don't get a response from the person being asked(should I stick to asking just 1 time?)

1 time with no response is basically it. Asking again is badgering - either that person is AFK or ignoring you.

Don't give gill sellers another idea for making money.

The whole idea of teh game is working as teams etc. When i eventually get raise for my pld if there is a shout and I am not in a hurry then I would go assuming I wont be putting myself in any danger, as for charging, just think back to everytime you died at lower levels and how many times some helpfull person has come and answered your raise shout and not asked for anything.

Re: should we be paying for raises??

If i have to go out of my way I ask to be compensated for my transportation fees (chocobo fee, airship fee, outpost warp fee, etc.) No more than that. Some people are cool and will give me that much. But thats all I ever ask for.

You either raise for nothing or you dont. Your either part of the reason tele's are upto 15k in whitegate or your not.

Re: should we be paying for raises??

I'll usually offer some gil if it's a raise that made them get out of the way of what they were doing or whatnot. Whether or not they accept it is up to them; I don't personally accept gil when I raise someone.

I don't accept gil for raise even if they offer. But that's me. Everyone have their preferences.

Re: should we be paying for raises??

Since I have had Raise I have never asked for gill - I just feel like I am repaying the community the countless times I have died and gotten a raise.

I remember when I first got it, I was actively looking around for people who had died!! haha

Re: should we be paying for raises??

I never ask for payment for a raise - I see it as common courtesy and will do it for anyone who asks or I happen to find KO'd (if I'm not busy with something).

If someone wants to donate in return though, that's up to them and I won't refuse it.

Tele's are 15k in whitegate? I need to move on out there, I've just been doing that whole free to 3k spectrum in Jeuno~ ^_~
Usually for teles, friends get it for free, ls gets it for free and whatever people offer in their shouts, I accept. So call me the great satan~

As for raises, I normally don't have them pay, I figure we all die at some point. If they offer something, depending on how much it is in relation to their gear I will accept it. If they have junk gear and you can tell they're kind of new, I won't accept it, but if they are +1'd out, then yeah, I'm going to accept it.

Re: should we be paying for raises??

I think the most I've ever been offered is like a flower or something, which is pretty much worthless when you think about it, but the guy insisted I take it so whatever. I've been offered plenty of gil before to raise people but I've always said "No charge." What baffles me is that people are surprised that I don't want them to pay me for it. >.<
