If they were really going to do new playable races, I'd personally want to see the beastmen playable than some random, new race. Imagine just starting out starting out as a Yagudo MNK in Giddeus and working your way up into working into the ranks with the Yagudo in Castle Oztroja.
Imagine trying to get into Jeuno only to be run out by the guards, but finding acceptance in places like Al'Zahbi. Beastmen could live on a totally different path from the other races, diffent objectives and the choice to stay a Child of the Twilight or ally with the Children of Altana.
They could add a whole faction thing if you wanted to go good. And if not, you could go EXP on some smoothskins maybe. They could have this whole faction and PVP thing (it'll never happen, but I can dream.)
Male mithra? no, just no. NPC, maybe, not playable. Its been established there are few male mithra born and blah blah blah. A sudden rise in male mithra goes against what we already know. Don't see the need, if you want to play a male, there were three other races that had them, you picked a catgirl "for the stats."
I picked the catgirl because I don't like looking at a man's virtual ass on my free time, it had nothing to do with stats. | Lol, now this is sounding some other MMOs I've played. For FFXI though the idea looks a lot more intrusive though. As for new races there is a wide aspect of combinations you can mix for races, the basic now cover most things except CHR none are particulary a max in that. Then of course instead of having STR and MND (Elvaans) they could vary a race to have STR and INT that is almost comparible to Tarutaru but not have the Mana, this opens different possiblities.
There is a wide range of possibilities if you stuck with giving each race 2 that they'd have some level of excelling in then you got 16 total variations. So far with race it's only done an actual of 4 variations, Hume doesn't count since stats are almost the same across the board for them. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 01-05-2007, 05:47 PM | #17 (permalink) | | Heir to Odin Oracle of Knowledge Join Date: May 2006 Location: None of your damn business Posts: 3,793 Style: Light - Version 5 My Mood: Thanks: 842 Thanked 354x in 251 Posts Gil: 129,942 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 129,942 Donate | Re: New Faces and Hair Styles! Races? I'd pay for another character! I could have sworn it mentioned somewhere that the males did at one time venture out and do things, but eventually their numbers dwindled down so changes were made to protect the species as a whole.
Who's to say there can't be an FFXI equivalent to the baby boomers? >_>
And I wanted a Male Mithra because I prefer to choose my avatars as a reflection of my self; I don't have a problem with female Mithra (quite the opposite) but I'd much prefer to play a male character if given the chance.
Hell, as far as culture change goes, there could just be some colony of them that decided to finally break their taboo and venture out into the world, who knows. There's nothing stating that it absolutely can not happen, as is the case with the Galka (who are actually genderless with a male appearance)
I want my lion bishie >- <(though to be honest, @ this point even if I could be a male mithra it just wouldn't be worth giving up 3 years of progress into my Elvaan) | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 01-08-2007, 01:03 PM | #18 (permalink) | | Pai Pai Lackey Super Moderator Join Date: Feb 2003 Posts: 5,242 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 4 Thanked 29x in 24 Posts Gil: 40,208 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 40,208 Donate | Re: New Faces and Hair Styles! The only statement I've seen from SQUARE-ENIX was that the Mithra's are predominantly Female. The catch word there is predominant, this doesn't solely mean that gender wise there are more females then males. What that wording states is the dominant or controling gender is female, much like many feline's cultures are setup as.
Like many feline's cultures the male protects the territory they claimed as their own. This would be their Main Homeland, while the females adventure, hunt, gather, and raise the young. There is nothing that I've seen of the males actually being lower in number, it's just that the males behavior is mainly set that they are not the adventuring type. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | All times are GMT -8.
