Re: Changes in FFXI GM Policy!

Well, SE did release a more detailed list of GM responibilities: https://secure.playonline.com/ff11us/rule/policy.shtml

That, in addition to the announcement, pretty much covers most of the issues at hand. I for one am glad that SE chose to do this, as it empowers GMs to be able to do the things they should have been able to from the start, while at the same time showing us that they actually *do* follow a set of rules that are effective in allowing them to do what they do.

Nice, it looks like this round of Job Adjustments actually improved the one Job that needed it the most: Game Master. Bravo, SE, bravo!

Re: Changes in FFXI GM Policy!

After reading this... I failed to see any improvement...
Restore lost item or xp? Do they have any clue what is going on in this game ~_~?

In my opinion, punishment should have a standard: players should receive the standard punishment corresponding the the rule he breaks, regardless of any GM that execute the punishment.

They should list a detail of rules/regulation and the corresponding/standard GM action is going to take when a player breaks the rules. Anything that is not part of the rules should not be punished.

I do not want to be in a situation where GM ABC would do nothing, while GM XYZ would do something crazy in a similar situation.

Edit: Opps, they do have detailed list of GM responibilities:
https://secure.playonline.com/ff11us/rule/policy.shtml
Too bad my proxy server blocks the site... have to wait until I get home before I can see it.
Or maybe anyone please copy and paste the policy up there, if it is not too long ^^?

“GMs don’t listen to what we have to say,” “All they’re good for is getting us out of a stuck situation,” and “It’s not worth it to call it in, you’ll just get punished instead” are just several examples of opinions we’ve heard voiced on the forums.

I just loved this part, they just forgot to say "...and then I get feed to Jormy ; ;"

Re: Changes in FFXI GM Policy!

Hmh...this "code of conduct" sounds interesting and the loss of items and XP...but it will never change the bad experiences I've had or other people have had with GMs. Maybe GMs this time around won't be so robotic and their responces sound so generic like from a script or something. Or it oculd just be the oposite...who knows...

no. it's an actual job that you have to apply for using the regular job hunting procedures (resume, interview, etc.).

And here's the brief list of policies from https://secure.playonline.com/ff11us/rule/policy.shtml (more details about each on the page)
Quote:
I accidentally called a GM. What should I do?
Can I request a specific GM when I call?
I am being harassed on an out-of-game website (BBS, board, etc.) Can the GM take action on this?
Item Recovery
Harassment
Inappropriate Naming
Inappropriate behavior
In-Game Scams
Compromised Accounts
Actions that could result in an unfair advantage
Character Stuck Issues
What is a GM (Game Master) in Vana'Diel?
Using the name of a Square Enix employee or its likeness
How do you judge if an action is harassment?
Isn't the decision of who was harrassed up to the testimony of the player that was harrassed?
What is the difference between harassment and inappropriate behavior?
At what point do you consider someone to be monster holding?
What do you consider spam?
Someone has opened a bazaar in the middle of a passage. Is this Grid locking?
Is power leveling (PL) against the rules?
Managing Linkshell Items
What kind of promise should I make when lending or borrowing an item?
How long does it take for GMs to recover the items?
Does virus-scanning software or security software count as running a third-party program in the background?
What constitutes taking advantage of in-game mechanics not intended as normal means of game play?
What if my account is hacked outside of Information Center business hours?
What if a player that reported me for harrassment also harrassed me? Isn't he/she also subject to punishement?
I would like an item lost in-game returned.
What kinds of items can I have reimbursed?

Our team’s primary goal is to change the perception of our GMs by helping our players understand what our GMs do. Some have said that making our policy public would cause great harm to our support staff. Even within our team, there was much opposition to allowing GMs to make themselves visible...
How could they seriously think that making themselves a visable force for players and rules would harm the support staff. Granted people will resent you regardless of what you do, but showing that you are there for people is far better than a distant cold reply of 'We will investigate this matter futher, but the results are confidential.' People might feel a little better that their problem is being addressed with someone there to see it and address them in person.

re: RMT

GMs shouldn't be the ones looking into RMT anyway. I'm happy SE put the STFU (keke) together to track RMT. It's been documented in GM convos that they will refer you to Site Feedback in regards to RMT stuff as it goes to the STFU that way.

As enlightening as Sage's interview is, this page gives much more detailed info on the role of GMs

Y'know what? I just realized, with your post, Etick, that the official name was the Special Task Force Unit.

With that epiphany over SE slyly telling us to do so, I just had to lol.

I tried applying for a GM job once but was turned down mainly on the fact that i was a FFXI player and could possibly use the tools and abilities to my gain in game. I had 2 phone interviews and on my 2nd call i was turned down because they found out i played the game. I was quite frustrated by it and quite confused...i mean what better of a person to be a GM who plays the game but then there oculd have been other reasons as well but i had years of Customer Service Managment under my belt as well.... I mean Blizzard hires people on experience, i know a woman i worked with a year back got a job at blizzard being a GM for the Thunderhorn server and also plays on a different server. I was just turned off by working for SE so i didn't go any further as far as looking into why i didn't get hired.

Edit:
Also to emphasize on the RMT subject....I think the STFU is doing fine...they are slowly gettign rid of botters at the VE camp...saturday 6 taru same LS simliar names just vanish after a huge lag spike and seeing 6 taru leap from the group of trees in front of Whitesands beach to the lil cove where bogies like to spawn...logged on this morning and i don't see them So i think STFU is active but slowly getting at it. Also they could just be documenting the activites and waiting for another huge ban to get rid of more gil obtained by these botters, farmers with the intent to sell the gil...just my lil .01 cents.

Re: Changes in FFXI GM Policy!

We don't really need restored items and free raises when we log in from maitenance. What we need are Jormy-eaten gilsellers. This doesn't address that and I don't think that STFU has been doing as grand a job as I had expected--Asura is still crawling with rather obvious GS who remain totally unmolested and even get GMs to guard them against MPK when killing HNMs--not that I agree with MPK, but still...lesser of two evils perhaps?

Speaking of which... I have no idea how one would go about MPKing an alliance in Tiamat's area except maybe Antlion Charm/Release...that story is second hand.
