Also has anyone who owns one taken a look under the hood? You're likly to find Nvidia's nice looking geforce 8800 768mb card among some other goodies.
Yeah, I know the PS3 got a lot of nice stuff in it. I mean technology wise the console should be like almost $3,000.00+. I mean it's an absolutly incredible deal for Sony to be seeling it for $500-$600 yet they get no appreciation still. Well no appreciation by a certain group.

Outside of that you've got people selling their children to get a PS3. Being serious too, heard it this morning on the news. Parents were offering their 8-14 year old children in exchange for a PS3.

That would be the group of people who don't need and don't want an HD-DVD player. My TV doesn't have HD hook ups, and I don't want to spend my money replacing my DVD collection with HD-DVD equivalents. So I have a hard time justifying paying 600 bucks for a box that will server me only as a gaming console.

Beside the point of HD, the PS3 still provides more function. I mean it can store Movies, Music, and even convert PS1 games to be used on the PSP. Even if you don't have HD that's only a fraction of this systems capabilities and options. Besides that it can play plain DVDs so no need to upgrade to HD right away, and even then it's just a choice of either starting from your collection then and on to going HD, or only choose to grab the HD versions of select ones you want in HD and just go DVD with the rest. Not the same as converting from VHS to DVD, DVD to Blue Ray is still backwards compatible with the DVDs.

No, Sony didn't make programming for the PS3 easier, when compared to the development tools available for the Wii and Xbox360, the PS3's development tools are terrible.

Edit: OH also forgot.
It isn't the GeForce 8800 in there, it's the RSX, which is about equivelant to a 7800. (1) As well, it has a total of 512 MB of RAM, 256 of which is dedicated to the videocard, while the other half is for general purpose stuff. (2) Basically the 8800 is much more powerful than the PS3's videocard.

All in all porting FFXI should be easy since programming is so similar to the PS2 so rebuilding a game from the ground up shouldn't have to happen. But to fit graphically it might have to but adding rendering and smother purportions isn't all that hard...basically just the the graphics card do its jobs.
Or Squaresoft does nothing, waits for Sony to release a patch making FFXI compatible with the PS3's PS2 emulator, and all is solved. The chances of Squaresoft doing anything beyond making FFXI compatible with the PS3's PS2 emulator is about about the same as the limit of x^2 as it approaches x=0.

I believe you'll find the answer here:

FFXI...on an 80GB PS3?

Short answer, yes it will. All you need to do is d/l a FREE file from the Playstation Store.

I'm assuming it still looks ugly as sin (espcicially on an hdtv) ? any way around this? Can't i make it look nice like the 360 version somehow?

Yes it still does look poopie. You can smooth it a tad with the PS3 but not enough to make much of a difference. And no, there just isn't a way to make it look like the 360 version. Sorry. ; ;

Not that the 360 is that fantastic (at least, coming from the PC), but it's not as bad as the PS2 version.
