Windower

In the beginning SE made it available for players to play in Windowed mode, but for reasons concerning RMT and other third party tools that increased Movement Speed they took this privilage away. However many players continued to window thier games using programs such as Azaril's Windower and the RMT and Movement Speed problems kept going on. SE has basically said if they catch you using these windower programs they will terminate your account even if they don't detect that you use it meliciously to increase movement speed or involve yourself in real money trades. Personally I, like many others, use the program so that I can actually play the game because my parents don't approve of me playing the game at all, so i do it behind their backs and the only way to do this is to use a windower or reset your whole computer every single time they walk in the room. I'm also a writer and as being one, an idea pops into my head suddenly and I have to write it down right then or else I forget it, so the windower lets me play much more casually all day. Also many people simply use the windower to be able to use the fantastic game sites that aid you with quest lookups, item lookups, and just about everything else. I, along with the majority of vanadiel, would very much like to be able to use the windower function that you had originally set into the game instead of having to resort to a third party tool.

Are you talking about the JP version for PC, perhaps?

I know for a fact this feature was not available at any time for the North American version (or later versions). I've been playing FFXI since the PS2 Beta back in June of 2003, and none of the NA versions from beta to today have ever had windowed capability.

No, FFXI did not have a "windowed mode" however POL does and that is the were that option is applying to when you select it. I can see how people could confuse that, because they don't realize that the FFXI package is actually 3 separate programs provided to you (6 if you count each expansions as separate programs).

As it seems, there are quite a few with that same opinion. Doubt it's actually above 50% of the entire FFXI populous, but would not be surprised if it's close to that. Given time they might eventually do that, it would be just the same thing that EQ did then. If you didn't know that one started as non-windowed as well, only recently that it actually went windowed (And still windowed version isn't that great, lot of frame-rate problems with it).

Personally I'm undecided on that choice, just seems chaning it to go windowed puts to many potential problems for it then it's worth doing.

Re: Windower

I'm about 197.9806% sure I want a windower function of some type. It's Lame-O to the MAX (x2) that I have to either: shout a question I have and hope for a response to no avail or logout and search then log back on hoping I remembered all the info (because I dont have the time to write all of it down, or the money to buy ink to print out everything I need). Either way, only having 2 hours a day I don't have time to play cat and mouse with the internet. And, all in all, that leaves me unable to fully enjoy all the small details of the game that really make it what it is....

Re: Windower

I kind of enjoy the fact that I can't accidentally Alt-Tab/Ctrl-Esc/Window Key myself out of FFXI at any given time... It has sort of an ergonomic benefit to it in that I won't have to wait for the game to reacquire resources while some nasty little monster is chewing on my soon-to-be corpse...

However, a Menu option that swaps me out without logging me out (maybe give me the little ... AFK bubble) would be very handy.

I just have the OS cancel those command buttons while that program is running. So I don't have that problem, that way I can mash those all I like and they do nothing.

Re: Windower

Rate up for mentioning PnP RPG. ^^

I've been Playing/DMing DND since I was 10 and Shadowrun GMing since 18.

Unfortunately my party disbanded, and we don't get to play much any more. :/

Re: Windower

I use the windower just so I can have quest walkthroughs and such up while doing them or browsing the internet while seeking. I understand why SE doesn't build it in, and I understand that alot of people use it in malicious ways to w/e extent, but I think majority of us who have it installed is more for harmless convenience. There's no real way, except for admitting it in-game, that SE can tell you're using the windower, if you're using ONLY the windower, so I don't think it'll become an issue when the ban stick starts being waved around.
