Eliminate the head the body dies...

With the new adjustments to besieged and the NMs who will be leading the enemy forces...do you think if you eliminate all the NM leaders will the beseiged end?? or basically cut down all opposing forces to about 25% and they will retreat?? I've only watched a beseiged never really took part in one simply becasue i would never land a hit with my lvl 37 war lol. I was spectating to see how it happened how it all worked...

Ahh, my only weakness! How did you know?

I see where you're coming from. It would be nice in a "realistic fantasy" type way if the NM leaders actually had some real clout aside from being hard-asses. I'm a puny: I've never been in a besieged, so I wouldn't know.

it doesn't mention anything about the strength of the army hmm.
As it is, we already have several NMs with level 5 besiege which has rediculous amount of MP... 15 minutes attacking it with hundreds of people we got it down from 100>95% something like that.

Re: Eliminate the head the body dies...

I think it already works that way to an extent, but there are already some named beastmen that to my knowledge have never been killed, at least on my server. If the NMs they're adding are even harder, which I assume they are, it'd be faster to cut off the body.

Re: Eliminate the head the body dies...

When I read the title I was expecting something on the lines of "The body cannot live without the mind, Neo" ... but I digress.

I haven't fought Besieged since they made those changes but I see players still lack organization like always. Every time I'm in Besieged I'm thinking "If these guys had gone to Normandy I'd be speaking German right now..." if alive that is.

Edit > Even so, it's rare for Fenrir to lose the Astral Candy.

Re: Eliminate the head the body dies...

Too many people try to zerg the HNMs. Beseiged is won by destroying the army, not the HNMs. Rushing to get people killed on HNMs is how to lose beseiged. (Killing the smaller NMs like Phantasmal Puk can be useful, though.)

So, basically, the thread title is exactly backwards. Eliminate the body and the head retreats. Trying to eliminate the head is a waste of time and life. (Fortunately not exp.)

Re: Eliminate the head the body dies...

I thought I read somewhere that killing the NMs as it stands now has no bearing on Besieged success.

Re: Eliminate the head the body dies...

it seems there really is no strategy to besieged but hack'n'slash as much as you can....do we have any old military generals on these forums...lol maybe if can use a lined defense...pally's bouncin hate with flash and voke. all Nin sub thf SATA to the pally's and DDin the mob BLU SAM DRG MNK DRK (Stunnin) PUP SMN RNG DDin, BLM WHM healin and nukin from behind...

thinkin about that but then again...besieged is a frickin mess...mobs everywhere really can't orchestrate anything...

Re: Eliminate the head the body dies...

It may be accurate to say that there is no strategy, but there are certainly tactics. On Lakshmi when things get serious (read: undead swarm takes over an hour) there's always communication in shout letting people know exactly where the generals are, how their hp is holding up, where the buildups of mobs are, etc. If there are too many mobs in a critical place, like around a general or at the astral plinth, it's the job of rdms and blms to -ga them and get the attention of the ones that aren't being actively dealt with and kite them away so their diamondhides and blood sabers and what have you don't cripple the other players.

It's hard to discern what's going on and what to do in the chaos, but there's a lot to it.

Re: Eliminate the head the body dies...

I always have problems keeping alive the general I try to protect.

I'm always using /say (Assist) General Galkor and telling everyone around him/her how's his/her HP doing, but only a few people try to help keep them alive.

Most players just go "Oh! skele... shiny!!" and just run around aimlessly spamming their Dia/Cure/Raise macros.

And setting a defense line would be close to impossible unless you actually made a LS and set an alliance to assist every general, and then the main force split in 2 teams to take care of the NMs or something like that.

Yeah right, like that will happen...

Re: Eliminate the head the body dies...

Sometimes the lag makes the generals tough to find. lol

I was in party with someone and he kept mentioning to cure the General. I was right next to him and he said he was right by the General. I couldn't see the General the whole time I was there though.

Re: Eliminate the head the body dies...

I hate that. I always crank my texture settings down for besieged in the hope that important things will load faster. I don't know if that even makes sense, but it's a nice placebo. I wonder if it's possible to get your PC good enough to play besieged smoothly with decent settings without people popping in and out of existence constantly.

Re: Eliminate the head the body dies...

I dunno how the server and client handle Besieged, but NPCs and party/alliance members should be rendered always, and people outside that can appear and dissapear all they want.

Re: Eliminate the head the body dies...

The problem is that if you go after the NMs only you'll lose. :D

The AoE spam from them is massive and you'll simply end up with an enormous pile of corpses while the normal mobs take your AC.
