Hamlet: I'll get right on that. Meanwhile, keep on thinking of stuff you'd do if FFXI was real. I appreciate your contributions in that area. Especially since you've managed to target an area that no one has tackled yet. Kudos to you. | Well, there's only so much you can talk about in general discussion about ffxi. Changes to the game come slowly, so basically, topics are going to mostly about the same thing:
1. bad parties
2. bad luck experiences
3. good luck experiences
4. gilselling (because it's a neverending problem)
5. creative joke threads, like "if ffxi was real"
In theory, an ffxi message board's general discussion area could consist of 5 threads and cover almost everything.

But I think FFXIO is doing just fine with threads. Every day when I log on there are a few hundred responses and a couple dozen new threads. I think that's pretty good.
Anyway, this is going wildly off topic. If you have any more personal observations to make about me feel free to PM them. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 07-08-2006, 06:12 PM | #33 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Jun 2006 Location: Dallas, TX Posts: 191 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 738 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 738 Donate | Re: Gil Buyers For the record, i'll never buy gil. If i can't afford the best equipment, and you don't want to PT with me, because i don't have the sword of pwn, with the chestplate of uber demon protection, I don't need your PT anyway. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 07-08-2006, 06:14 PM | #34 (permalink) | | Best "n00b" Join Date: May 2006 Location: Canada, eh Posts: 130 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 2 Thanked 1 Time in 1 Post Gil: 1,079 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 1,079 Donate | Re: Gil Buyers It seems there's people who buy money on games for many MMORPGs, I have friends who play Maple Story and they say people buy money there, and my other friend who plays WoW says the same. I was "present" when IGE exploded onto the Everquest scene, the game never recovered. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 07-08-2006, 07:19 PM | #36 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Sep 2005 Posts: 244 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 3 Thanked 2x in 2 Posts Gil: 9,461 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 9,461 Donate | Re: Gil Buyers | Originally Posted by Telal | For the record, i'll never buy gil. I remember seeing "GET A HAUBY NOOB" in someone's sig on KI, and pretty much...heard that ingame.
If you really have to have this really fancy ubertasticalpwn gear to do anything fun, then (@%&!&^@ you). Of course, it's that mentality that drives players into buying gil. Even worse, companies like IGE, MOGS, GamerKings, Power4Game, etc. take advantage of this to get players to buy gil. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 07-08-2006, 08:18 PM | #37 (permalink) | | Senior Member Brain of Knowledge Join Date: Apr 2003 Location: Des Moines, Iowa Posts: 1,186 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 9 Thanked 12x in 11 Posts Gil: 1,296 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 1,296 Donate | Re: Gil Buyers Two friends of mine have bought gil. About 10m each, I believe. While it's sort of sad (I personally don't like gilbuying), I'm not about to stop being friends with them because of it either. In both their cases, their justification was their limited play time.
Personally, I feel it cheapens everything too much. Like brown belt... that was a major major pain for me, but I felt damn good when I obtained that belt. I look at it and I remember what I went through to get it. There's not much of an attachment to the same item if I were to go to IGE, spend $50 (or however much 4m is) and then go to the AH and buy it. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 07-08-2006, 10:24 PM | #38 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Sep 2005 Posts: 244 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 3 Thanked 2x in 2 Posts Gil: 9,461 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 9,461 Donate | Re: Gil Buyers Fsh. I was excited when i got Raise II. Because it dropped down to 60k.
And Protect IV, which was 110k. You get really excited when you did hard work to complete something, but cheating makes that Hauby worth naught.
And you better believe that people buy Gold/ Gil/ Zeny in every game. In Second Life, it's okay (It's not a MMORPG; I don't know WHAT to classify it as. And yet somehow I believe that IGE or someone is manipulating that too...), but in a MMORPG? If you can't work for the money, then don't even play it.
People buy Zeny in Ragnarok Online and Maple Story.
People buy Platinum in Everquest and Everquest II.
People buy Adena in Lineage II.
People buy Information in The Matrix Online.
People buy CHARACTERS in those games. The Level 75 n00b is worse than the Level1 n00b since the Level 75 n00b has the potential of wiping the party. And not a newb, but a n00b.
The desire to "Play at the next level" is clearly being exploited by companies. If you want to play at the next level, then GAIN it instead of BUYING it.
