With the help of Feba, Aelathir, Materia and several others, it has been a rather smooth transition.
I'm working my Fame, I'm on Mission 1-3 in Windy, and about 1/2 way to lvl 10.
I won't get to play again until Weds, but the game is pulling me in quickly.
This game is very pretty and the UI wasn't as hard to get used to as I though, i'm now completely "mouseless" in game, and i'm loving that also.
A couple of technical questions, if i may.
I've uncompressed everything in the options, and that helped with some of the pixilated or "splotchy<SP>" graphics we had.
I'm wondering if I should set up a profile in my video card settings, to take AA and AF out of the applications hands, and force 4x or higher on each while playing FFXI.
Anyway, I'm offically a player now, and loving the game. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 07-02-2006, 03:50 PM | #2 (permalink) | | Senior Veteran Oracle of Knowledge Join Date: May 2006 Posts: 4,515 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 106 Thanked 1,352x in 822 Posts Gil: 6,079 Bank: 151,649 Total Gil: 157,728 Donate | Re: Welp, I've been playing 3 days now... | Originally Posted by Telal | | With the help of Feba | Man, you're screwed | Originally Posted by Telal | I'm wondering if I should set up a profile in my video card settings, to take AA and AF out of the applications hands, and force 4x or higher on each while playing FFXI. | Since FFXI has no concept of AA of AF, leaving it at what most people will recommend (Application Controlled) will do nothing. So yes if you have a decent GPU and want to use AA and/or AF, you will have to tell the driver explicitly to do so. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 07-02-2006, 03:54 PM | #3 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Jun 2006 Location: Dallas, TX Posts: 191 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 669 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 669 Donate | Re: Welp, I've been playing 3 days now... Feba has been very cool with information about the game.
Where to hunt, where certain NPC's are for certain quests ect. We all don't see eye to eye on everything, but for being a "newbie" helper, Feba is a good guy.
I have a GeForce6600GT, so it should be able to handle at least 4x on both. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 07-02-2006, 03:58 PM | #4 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: FL Posts: 104 Style: Dark - Version 5 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 1,029 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 1,029 Donate | Re: Welp, I've been playing 3 days now... Welcome, I am glad you are enjoying Vana'diel. I have a tip if you would like to try. Disclaimer: this involves going into your System Registry and I am not to be held responsible if anything gets screwed up.
Go to Start Menu>Run>type in "regedit">Ok
That will open the Registry Editor
In Reg Editor go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>PlayOnlineUS>SquareEni x>FinalFantasyXI
Lines 0003 and 0004 are the Background Resolution, which is limited to 1024x1024 by the FFXI Config Tool.
Double-click on those two lines to change the value. Make sure you set them both the same.
500 = 1280 BG resolution
600 = 1536
700 = 1792
800 = 2048 (where I have mine set)
So, if you wanted a 2048x2048 Background Resolution, like me, you would double click on 0003 and change the value to 800, and hit ok. Make sure the base is set to "Hexadecimal". Then double click on 0004 and do the same.
Be warned, it takes a very good system to run the 2048x2048 resolution. Good luck to you, and enjoy the game. Anyway Telal, I don't really know how to force AA/AF on FFXI (If anyone does, i'd love to hear it), but the most common way of enhancing it is by tweaking your registry to increase resolution (I can tell you how to do this if you want) Double Post Edited:

I know how to do it Feba, you just go into your video card settings, and take the check marks out of application controled, and set the slider.
With the new geforce drivers you can set profiiles so it only does that when certain programs are run.
Myaku, i've though of doing that, but the background looks pretty at 1024x1024, my problem (as it were not a huge one at that), is with the blocky grass and tree leaves. :D | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 07-02-2006, 04:04 PM | #7 (permalink) | | ONE LIFE Oracle of Knowledge Join Date: Oct 2004 Posts: 6,803 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 1,675 Thanked 1,486x in 1,041 Posts Gil: 23,525 Bank: 411,171 Total Gil: 434,695 Donate | Re: Welp, I've been playing 3 days now... I run at 1280x1024 myself, not that it's a huge difference. I find anything larger than my monitor has a considerable drop in speed, and anything smaller is just annoying.
I did turn it up to like 2400x2400 once, totally freaked out my PC. Turned the entire zone into a checkerboard trying to deal with it all.
And thanks for the instructions on AA/AF, i'll try that out. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 07-02-2006, 04:06 PM | #8 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Jun 2006 Location: Dallas, TX Posts: 191 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 669 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 669 Donate | Re: Welp, I've been playing 3 days now... The idea is to have the background resolution set to higher then the foreground (display). | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 07-02-2006, 04:40 PM | #10 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Jun 2006 Location: Dallas, TX Posts: 191 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 669 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 669 Donate | Re: Welp, I've been playing 3 days now... so i want to set my background to 2560x2048? | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 07-02-2006, 05:07 PM | #11 (permalink) | | Senior Veteran Oracle of Knowledge Join Date: May 2006 Posts: 4,515 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 106 Thanked 1,352x in 822 Posts Gil: 6,079 Bank: 151,649 Total Gil: 157,728 Donate | Re: Welp, I've been playing 3 days now... | Originally Posted by Telal | so i want to set my background to 2560x2048? | 2048x2048. Background doesn't have to be a square, and it doesn't have to stop at 2048 (depending on your hardware). I run at 1280x1024 and have set mine to 2560x2048, and also 2560x2560. No noticeable difference in performance between the two, though my system can't really handle either. You can always try it and see. Ellipses on Fenrir There is no rush.
