My pet peeve is building lights and feet farming.
I've always been a little behind when it comes to this game and I#'m fine with that, I've spent most of my time this week repeatedly fighting Gnawtooth Gary for pup and smn feet seals. I have finally managed to collect them but now have realised I have no feet to upgrade /facepalm.

I renewed my time in abyssea swiched to blm frame and equipped 2x yagatan daggers from grauberg and headed to the same section I was in just the other side of the pond/lake.
Instead of bunnies, I've been fighting the peapuks and let Lulu get killshot for azure then hop to the devegetators using Aeolian edge for kill for amber. Also grabbing the ephemeral mob that floats past because that gives 16 of each light instead of 8 like the others.

I've done this two times now. opening every chest with forbidden key to save time, and destroying the junk ones.
Each trip I've maxed Azure and got amber around the 150 mark. I've seen only 1 feet appear Cor and thats fine with me but both trips I got 0 Time extensions. I know I'm lacking some abyssite thingy's but I feel like SE are toying with me lol.

I don't like to bother people for small things I like to do as much as I can alone especially first time so I have an idea if I can help others when they need it.

So after that wall of text my question is, What am I doing incorrectly?

I always tried to keep my amber right around 100, but feet can drop anywhere north of 60 I think. As far as TEs go, I have no idea. Max azure always keeps me going with TEs.

First off, skip the Azure lights. Don’t bother. Your gonna spend too long building it and chances are you’ll wanna quit w/in 2 hours anyway.

Not sure what Atmas you have, but I suggest 1 Refresh, 1 Regain and 1 MAB atma. I use MM(refresh), Sea Daughter(regain) and Ultimate(MAB). If you don’t have those, try and at least switch them up with similar stats (like remove SD and add VV). With a dagger, you need any help you can get gaining TP. MM to keep your whm frame’s MP and the INT will help to slightly beef up AEing. MAB will help it too.

Put on any a mix of –PDT, MAB and Int gear where you can. I have about -12% pdt (twilight torque, dark ring and jelly ring) and whatever MAB/int I can muster.

Go Pup/Rdm if you can and whip out your whm frame.
(**optional**) get maybe 2 kills with ruby to help get some red chests, as it may help boost amber a little faster (**optional**).

Fight 1 mob to have your puppet get a prot/shell on you. Then find a camp spot with either aggressive or linking mobs (I do crawlers). DO NOT DO PUKS.

Before pulling, cast Haste/Phalanx(if you have)/Ice Spikes. Then start pulling a couple.
Have your deploy/retrieve macros ready at all times.

Here’s the trick.
DON’T EVER HAVE YOUR PUPPET MELEE!

While your running gathering mobs, pop a light maneuver. ONLY deploy if your HPs get yellow. And once you deploy, immediately hit retrieve. This gets a fast cure off and the puppet wont melee or WS. Remember, it’s building TP from Atma so chances are it will be 100+ TP.

Once you have enough mobs (mess around and see how many you can handle) pull to a safe spot

-Use AE
-Tactical Swap
-Use AE
-switch focus to another mob. the reason for this is if your timing is right, you’ll skillchain on the first mob and he will have lower HP then the rest. You don’t wanna Deply/Retrieve on a mob that’s almost dead, it will cancel cure if you happen to kill it.
-build TP and AE till they all go down. Depending on the mob, it’s gonna take 3-5 AEs.
-once all dead, open necessary chests.

Anytime you need a cure.
-Light maneuver
-deploy
-retrieve

Again, don’t let your puppet melee. You don’t want him getting accidental rubys or pulling hate on an untouched mob with dia or something. he's there strictly for cures. By the time you check all the chests, cure up and recast buffs, your puppet will have 100+ TP again and tactical swap should be ready by the next pull.

Keep this up. You’ll get plenty of amber and some pearl (which is also what you want) by killing some mobs waiting on 100tp.

I don’t pay attention to the amount of amber I get anymore. Key is to just keep up pearl or amber (avoiding azure/ruby)

Forgot to mention…avoiding mobs with AoE tp moves and enfeebs would be ideal.

AoEs cause damage to your puppet and you want him to cure you above anything else. Sometimes you’ll deploy at that magical number where he cures himself over you. don’t want that.

I sometimes do Courels in other areas (because it’s so busy) and Paralyze can really mess things up.

I can do pup/rdm I have rdm in the 80's so that's no problem. I only have a small selection of atma none give regain though. I've used minikin monstrosity and mounted champion for regen.
I'd not let my automaton melee before the nukes the blm had been pullin off got her a slapping a few times so I'd deploy then retireve midcast so she sat idle after a nuke.
I have razed ruins should I do minikin monstrosity and rr? I can only use 2 at once at the moment.

and only build amber and a little pearl ?

I think so ya.

This may not be the BEST way, but this is the method I used for KI farming in Attowha and I’m dropping at least 4 pairs of feet a run. You’ll get higher amber this way (meaning more gold chests with KIs or Temps) but you’ll also get more gold chests in general.

Without regain, I still suggest not having it melee too much. If your using the Whm, it casts much more often too.

I keep my puppet idle at all times so it gets cure off when I want it to. If it has to cure itself for whatever reason, it restarts the timer and I may need those precious seconds for an emergency cure on myself. I forget reraise a lot and its so frustrating building lights then dying because the puppets doing something else.

No regain atma just means you’ll have to actually swing to get that 2nd AE off instead of getting it from Tactical Swap. So that’s what…an extra 30 seconds of fighting? No biggie.

No…RR does nothing here. IMO it will hurt more than help actually.

You wanna keep melee damage low and AE damage high. What happens is, if you use RR is you’ll start dropping mobs more 1 at a time oppose to 5 at a time with AE. And when you do that, they take longer over all to kill and some chests that you got of the first few mobs will depop before you can even check em. And that personally drives me nuts cause you KNOW that chest probably had 5 pup feets in it lol.

Use MM and whatever MAB one you can find. obvisouly the higher the better.
Ultimate, Beyond, Full moon...or even Gales would help (+wind damage).

Only amber and pearl. Rule of thumb is Azure for blue chests, Ruby for Red, Amber for gold.
Pearl is important too, just much harder to build. The higher the pearl, the higher chance of a chest dropping.

So you’ll want high pearl and mid-high amber.
Which translates to,
High chest drop rate, with higher chances of them being gold chests

Mount champ can work too, but I stopped using it once I got more comfortable with puppet curing.

I think it’s better than RR but at the end of the day, your gonna need something to beef up your AEs. Higher AE damage, means faster kills. Faster kills means kills more often, which means more chests

Last but not least. Some Blue chests will be inevitable. Use them to your advantage. If you got the keys to spare, restore chests sometimes give you 300% TP (higher AE damage) and others will have Asetic tonics (sp). Use them for more MAB (higher AE damage).

Thank you so much I went out and tried what you suggested.
Still had 0 Te's which I expected and a few gold chests, They had 0 feet in them and some were hugejust before I timed out I checked I had capped amber. So my next Q is, Can the strength of a light be too high?

I did get a couple of KI boss pops I think so it wasnt all bad.

Feet will still drop at capped amber, but then you are more likely to get KIs. I usually stopped before I got 100 amber and then just go to town on bats, since they don't give ruby (just watch out for Lord Varney).

Maybe this will help.

First off, understand that..
Both sizes of gold chests will carry temp items, regular items and gear
Small gold chests seem to have Items/gear more often then Temp items
Big gold chests seem to have Temp (and Key items) more often than items/gears.

With that being said…

-Here’s the ideal feet farming situation.
Get Amber to 100 – 120 (this will give you a better chance at chests being gold when they pop and keeps them small)
Get Pearl to as high as possible (this will give you a better chance at mobs actually dropping a chest)
Farm something that doesn’t give lights depending on the WS you use (like Ruby/Bats or Amber/Pugils (if your in Vunk))
Kill fast and furious

That’s probably the BEST way to farm feet.

-Here’s how I do it (because I like getting boss KIs too)
Get 140-Cap Amber (Most chests that pop will be big and gold)
Get Pearl to as high as possible (this will give you a better chance at mobs dropping a chest)
Kill fast and furious in mass quantities with AoE amber WS.

The first way will get more small gold chests but it will still be a healthy mix of red/blue/gold chests (just a rough %, I’d put it at 50%g/25%b/25%r).
My way will get you more ‘gold’ chests, but those chests will more likely be Temps or Key Items (just a rough %, I’d put it at 70%g/15%b/15%r).

I think I've almost got the hang of it. I've noticed and increase in gold chests and I'm not having any rogue lights creep in.
I've still not had feet appear though. I did get lucky, 15 mins before I timed out a party near me asked if I needed pup feet. They let me have them and now I have cirque feet +1.

I still have other jobs to gain feet for but I'm glad I have a better understanding at how to do it.
