The only difference between using macros created with the G15 software and with Windower is that SE has said (by creating a partnership that endorses the G15 and allows Logitech promotional privlidges with regards to FFXI) that the G15 is legit. Since it is thier game, they can do that. Welcome to the world of open-ended Terms of Service.

, still I do own a G-15 but while I understand the reasoning behind supporting a product (revenues for Logitech which they have a partnership with) I am apalled by that the G-15 creates a horrible clunky way of implementing the functionality. This while there is a free alternative out there does it better and much less clunky, but once again the mighty green is what dictaces what we're allowed to do not really if it is against a ruleset we as user cannot break (that is unless you can find a way for S-E to profit off it that is)

As an aside, any other boards that offer similar functionality to the G15? I use a Zboard for day to day playing, and its rock solid, but nowhere near the functionailty of the G15 - 'Merc' and 'Fang' apparently have a mod for FFXI, but they just look stupid, and the blurb on their site makes me want to be sick. Anyway, any other programmable boards? |

What if i employ a midget to do the skillups for me while im at work? is that considered botting? What if i come up with a contraption of sorts, something like a .. robot, that presses my keyboard keys for me, in the process skills up my healing, is that illegal? :|

So technically it is somewhat of a grey area until tested in court, but yes depending on how it is presented yes hiring that midget is indeed against S-E's User Agreement.

As ilegal as it is, currently SE cannot detect you using it. So unless you go saying you are, and get caught and/or reported there is nothing they can do about you. Just use your head when using it and dont go advertising the fact you do.

I have an X-Keys unit. It really doesn't play nice with FFXI at all. It does all right with single key combos (I have mine mostly programmed for Ctrl-Shift-1 through Ctrl-Shift-0, and Ctrl-M, Ctrl-W, etc.), but for straight-up text input, it sucks. You can put either no delay between keystrokes, or a 0.5-second delay. That's not good enough to try and use the keys as replacements for in-game macros. No delay makes it mix input with output in laggy situations and do commands in addition to just typing. So if someone says something in party chat while the xkeys is "typing," what they say will end up part of your "macro." The half-second delay is too long to make it worthwhile.

I think SE's third party policy is possibly their worst mistake. It's really stupid that when someone else manages to implement functions that should have been in the game in the first place it's suddenly against the rules, especially if they don't give a clear advantage over those who don't use them. TParty, one of Windower's default plugins, is a good example of what should have been included in FFXI. Why does SE think it's better to constantly spam TP macros than to see your party member's TP in the party frame? It's blows my mind... Also, FFXI is a game that desperatly needs to be windowable/minimizeable. You can't see your crafting recipes and many many other things from the game directly so you either minimize the game or restart it. I'm sure we all prefer the first option.

If anyone wants a nostromo, dig through my trash, it's probably in there.

If I remember correctly, being unable to alt-tab was done on purpose to keep the gaming experience (if I remember rightly) as close to the PS2 version as possible - dont diss the game because it doesnt suit your needs out the box, some of the downpoints are there for a reason. | |

I tried to use my Nostromo for Macros, it was slow as christmas. I'd set "Alt + 5" and the pad would be like "Alt.......................................... *cough* ................. 5". Yea, its not great for FFXI... it worked awesome for RTS games though. And I have a friend who is wicked good at FPSs with is. Somthing about FFXI hates it.
