The future of FFXI at E3

Well someone in my LS got the opportunity to speak to the FFXI team at E3.

http://www.rpgfan.com/news/2006/1254.html

I dunno what to say.

Re: The future of FFXI at E3

Well, they did a good job of not really revealing anything while still answering all of the questions presented.

Personally I'm not all that surprised by their comments re: Expansions and Life of the game. So long as people are willing to keep playing, and keep buying new expansions, they'll keep making them. I've seen folks say definitively that there will be no more expansions and I can't help but laugh, because it shows a complete lack of understanding of how businesses and MMOs work.

Anyway, it was still kind of interesting. I'm disappointed that there won't be another tele, as I think the game could really use it, but I guess I do see their reasoning there.

Re: The future of FFXI at E3

ToAU is the last expansion. CoP was the last expansion. RotZ was the last expansion. Players will always spread rumors like that.

Seriously though, they should add new teleport spells. There's already one Olduum ruin we can teleport to, why not make it a high level WHM spell? It doesn't have to be like the Zilartian ones.

I mean, heck, turn it into a game-wide event or something. Like a quest that each server has to do to unlock the teleportation to that area.

Re: The future of FFXI at E3

I am actually not surprised. They have just releaed the expasion, and it is natural that they want to see the reaction from people to it 1st. ToA hasnt been even out for 2 months, and there is still alot and i mean ALOT of things ahead for it. So, if the game keeps strong and with a solid user base, we will keep seeing expansions! I am almost sure we will get at least 1 more!

Re: The future of FFXI at E3

We need more than one more expansion if we hope to truly explore all of Vana'diel. We know for sure there are more lands to the east, lands in the west, the Mithran homeland in the south...and seeing as how the northlands used to be green, there's probably real icelands to the north.

Re: The future of FFXI at E3

Yeah, they pretty much explicitly said that there was an entire half a continent (or at least another nation) to the East of Aht Urghan (which we had all speculated anyway), so I expect to see a future expansion that allows us to explore that area a bit.

EQ is up to 7 or 8 expansions at least, and people have been calling that game dead for years. A year or so from now, we'll start to hear about their new expansion for FFXI. You can pretty much count on it.

Re: The future of FFXI at E3

Some good info to be had. No all the Ruins where the "Arks" are found were all created by the Ziraat peoples. the reason you can see wolfgang and others teleport is because they are teleporting to bound areas. Like Tavnazia is abound area, Jeuno is a bound area. And with the Society running aound creating Ziraatian technology it makes sense that certain people can teleport about those zones.

The Arks are just the primary power source for Ziraat technology. Those nice little tele-tavnazia rings were created by the Society. So to were the Dolls, golems, Pots, Mammets, techno-organic Weapons etc.

but it would be nice that a scientist would want to explore the "new" lands and provide a way to add telepoints.

The part the sandorians play is basically to revisit the past. Nothing spectacular at all sadly. The quests for them were some of the first quests in the game and, and basically short story fetch quests. BUT with that said the Sandorians had no idea, along with the other nations what those structures were actually used for.

Re: The future of FFXI at E3

Interesting read. I would absolutely love to see a teleport near Aht Urghan. Getting to Mhaura is a pain. I mean, come on, how out of the way is that?

Re: The future of FFXI at E3

I hang out in jeuno, so....
Airship to Bastok
Run to the outpost guy
Outpost warp to Buburimu
Run to Mhaura
Get on the ferry.
If I manage to hit all the ships right before they leave, probably like a 20 minute trip.
If I manage to just miss both ships, well I'm screwed. Probably around 45 minutes, maybe a few minutes less.
Best bet, like others have said is to set HP in whitegate, and just use the free warping taru to get to jeuno when you need to.
Faster way would certainly be nice, but I'm not counting on seeing anything from SE anytime soon.
