Actually, given all information available to us, they don't, and given the future, even less, as he mentions rewriting the input system yet again.

Your theory, is wrong, in that windower proabably uses a more simplistic approach and can't do anything you're thinking of, though as Cliff and Co themselves mentioned, parts of it, can indeed be dangerous, which no one is privy to but them.

In the end, and has been argued before, it's not windower's problem, but SE's.

Windower and ffact people have said that SE puts information in the client side that logically and security wize have no reason to be there. It's like a Microsoft-seque, "I make it easy for you to abuse me"

It's not windower that's making it dangerous to hack, it's SE. Until they clean it up, windower does more good then bad(if anyone has enough skill to hack the client, not having hooking ala windower isn't going to slow them down)

Let's not forget that SE didn't start banning people for using windower until after they added the plugin system. Until then they were fine with it. Eventually, SE will have to decide when enough is enough.

They've more or less stopped. It was an all show and no substance type of example making. As mentioned, they probably can't spot it, so it's all word of mouth. 1st rule of fight club is...

They've done a few things from then till now, but most programers agree it's stupid, and not really at all the proper way.

We can give SE credit in other fields, but in terms of quality programing, they rank pretty low. Luckly they got a better critical response time staff, to keep everything from blowing up.

Enough is enough, when then simply just go over the stupid client software...it doesn't even need to be detailed either...some stuff in there...obviously shouldn't be in there.

There have been a few recently, but I think they can only tell you're using it is if you're typing japanese on an english client - or you say you are. But that's just speculation. Windower itself didn't start to get some people in the community in an uproar until they added the plugin system.

I doubt SE feels windower is a real threat so far, but if they keep adding more and more stuff I'm sure SE will start to crack down, which I don't want. I don't think I could play FFXI without windower and I'm not talking about the plugins either, it's just not as fun to play when you can't do anything else while playing the game. When so much of the game is a timesink and waiting, it's like a torture test gone out of control if I can't look around on the Internet while I wait.

just wait alittle longer for WIndows Vista to come out, with it and directX 10 (for vista only) you can run anything in windowed mode even if it is not designed to do so, I tried FFXI in the beta version of Vista and it worked great, but I dont like running beta OS's so I switched back

I really can't stand when people say all this "IT GONNA DESTROY TEH GAMEZ". It is entirely safe and is mostly IP connection. SE can't see it and no you can't trade. They are not actually in your mog house, they see your chat and vice versa. The chat is actually sent to their computer directly, not through the game. A filter makes the chat not appear in game.

Safe. Not shut up already. I still don't understand why this site bans windowers. It makes this game twice as playable. Mrargus I understand... but, if SE breaks the windower for that day, I simply do not play until a fix comes out.

To everyone bitching, just remember one thing:

Square can make all of it go away just by letting people alt-tab. It's considered standard PC functionality.

I love the "Please don't forget your family, friends and work" message at the beginning, followed by them locking you out from doing anything buy play the game.

ok so o.O if its not done on the servers is it just a msn style program that runs between windowers and displays text/an image on your screen in your mog?
