I just started playing again after a year's break. I made a Taru and ended up on Quez server. I got to lvl 7 and tried using the AH... and it seemed there was almost nothing to be sold there. There was literally almost nothing to buy.. I couldn't buy many upgrades for my armor, and there weren't any for my weapons (including the types I didnt even like, such as club).
Has this game become empty? Or will I have to wait it out for Jueno? | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 10-20-2005, 09:39 AM | #2 (permalink) | | Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Posts: 813 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 44 Thanked 18x in 13 Posts Gil: 4,217 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 4,217 Donate | Re: Empty Server? What silentsteel is trying to say is that at the time you posted this there was a server maintanence scheduled for 8 AM EST till 6PM EST. That means that no one should've been able to get on the server. So if you were on at that time that may have had something to do with it? If not then I dunno. ^^;; | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 10-20-2005, 10:03 AM | #5 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Oct 2003 Location: Orlando, FL Posts: 96 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 1 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 2,247 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 2,247 Donate | Re: Empty Server? Lol. No, I'm talking about when I played 2 days ago. A worldpass would be very appriciated, especially if there is a big population of lower level characters for me to play with. Just PM me if you wouldn't mind buying me one. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 10-20-2005, 10:12 AM | #6 (permalink) | | Veteran Member Keeper of Knowledge Join Date: Dec 2004 Posts: 2,007 Style: Light - Version 4 Thanks: 101 Thanked 240x in 167 Posts Gil: 13,897 Bank: 126,988 Total Gil: 140,885 Donate | Re: Empty Server? Did you check the lvl of the items you were trying to buy?
Everything has a lvl requierment and more often then not, the higher lvl gear will not be sold in the starting cities. There is no possible way for EVERY low lvl item to be out of stock on an AH. I know when I first started and went to the AH, there seemed to be very few things I could buy. But once I got used to the system and learned more about the game it became very clear to me why I had the trouble in the first place.
My suggestion is when you get to the AH and choose a catagory, you go to Sort Items > By level. All the low lvl stuff will be at the bottom of the list and the high lv stuff will be up top. This is also a great way to see how few high lvl items are actually sold in starter cities. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 10-20-2005, 10:31 AM | #7 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Oct 2003 Location: Orlando, FL Posts: 96 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 1 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 2,247 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 2,247 Donate | Re: Empty Server? Yea. I've been around long enough to know how the AH works, and in Windurst there was like maybe 1 or 2 weapons total out of all the lvl 1-7 in each weapon type for sale, and they were all way over priced, and mostly the +1 weapons. I was baffled myself.. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 10-20-2005, 11:03 AM | #8 (permalink) | | Veteran Member Brain of Knowledge Join Date: Oct 2003 Location: UK Posts: 1,510 Style: Light - Version 6 My Mood: Thanks: 3 Thanked 30x in 17 Posts Gil: 10,752 Bank: 6,401 Total Gil: 17,153 Donate | Re: Empty Server? Farming crystals and selling whatever you get from lvl s1-10 really isnt enough to be able to afford a set of viable equipment for your current level. Prices keep inflating over time and the little things like crystals , hides etc arnt drastically increasing in comparison to the insane cost of equipment.
I dont know how SE plans to bring in loads of new players with the Xbox360 unless they make A couple brand new servers for it. Otherwise I see alot of new players quiting within the first month. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 10-20-2005, 01:01 PM | #11 (permalink) | | ONE WAY Keeper of Knowledge Join Date: Jan 2005 Location: Confirmed Posts: 2,908 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 86 Thanked 227x in 170 Posts Gil: 29,260 Bank: 13,467 Total Gil: 42,727 Donate | Re: Empty Server? Maybe he's exaggerating, there's tons of crap on the AH on Seraph. Most of what you can find on the San d'Orian AH you can find in the weapons and armor shops five steps away for a little cheaper. Not to mention people can buy belts for 400 gil, and people will buy them on the AH for 1000 gil. A stack of silk thread will now get you 40k on Ramuh, crawlers can be killed from about level 5+. You don't really need to buy from auction house for the first 7-8 levels. There are painters who transform the sun into a yellow spot,

transform a yellow spot into the sun.

This will drastically lower prices on MANY items and imsurprised its never been thought of or hinted at.
The Answer: N...P...C..
Right now FFXI is basically a player driven economy , meaning we set the prices for most things good or bad. Simply because the NPC vendors have a limited role in Vana'Diels economic system.
Now imagine Increasing the power of the NPC. Instead of selling Crap items, They sell items needed and wanted by players, AND at near reasonable prices.
Have 2nd tier vendors to sell those rare scrolls, Not for 1 mil but maybe 250k -400k.
Have the Weapons dealers in places like tavnazia Sell NM items. Its simple to add a say " Magical Vendor that sells rare/ex items " at exorbant but 20-40% less than AH prices.
Have the Guilds sell Player crafted items as though they were the AH.
So say a wood guild member sells staves back to the npc vendor for 20k The in turn sells the satff to another player for 30k, and once he runs out thats it unless another similar staff is sold to the vendor.
Theres a simple way to fix the ecomony that doesnt have to do with supply and demand at extravagant prices.
Heres a sample Npc.
Nicola the Hunter
Location: E-5 Tavnazia Safehold.
Dialogue1 (first meeting you): " Hey there, Im Nicola the Hunter.. Heard of me? Well im a hunter of the rare and prized, and not a bad mage i must say. I 've gotten hold of some interesting items from fellow adventurers and some of my own.
Dialogue 2: Say do you have anything thats rare and exquisite that you dont want anymore? Mayeb we can trade or perhaps sell each other something nice.
What do you say?
Dialogue 3: back again to see what i have? Here look at these and tell me if the prices are right. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 10-20-2005, 01:21 PM | #15 (permalink) | | Undeniably Banned Join Date: May 2004 Location: Where there is pumpkin pies and high fives!
