I was wondering as to why no matter how good my system is teh max FPS is 29. Is there anyway to get past this. I am running: AMD Athlong 64 3500+ 1gb DDR500 ATI Radeon x850 Pro PCI-e

So the PC version has to suffer as well?

yup. though it's not really suffering, the human eye (iirc) sees anything above 25fps as completely smooth. it's the shift in FPS that you'll notice (i.e. lower jeuno, dynamis). |

Outside of that the higher FPS the more realistic the image can appear, it's all like magic with just a slight of hand to create the illusion. | |

I cant get above 30fps and I'm running quite a machine. When others say they are lagging, I'm not, even in dynamis I dont lag as bad as everyone else says they are. Ive been in completely empty areas with the lowest graphics settings we can make and get no higher than 30, then again I put on the higher quality and get 30 then too >.>

Well I was curious of what area he mentions. There was some rumors of certain areas with 60 fps, I wanted to see if the area he mentions matches that. If so then maybe the rumor is true, if not then I'll leave this supposed 60 fps as rumor still.

30 fps is the highest in ffxi. I dunno how ppl are saying they can get higher...

It is impossible for ffxi (any version) to go above 30. This is hardcoded, perhaps as deeply as into the engine itself. It is so intwined that almost every element of it must be restricted to 30 or below. Anyone claiming they have gotten higher, is full of... well you get the point. There have been people who tampered with it to get it above 30fps. What happened then was very odd to say the least. The animation actually corrected itself back, like a rubber band that make stretch out, but will bounce the other way with equal force once it reaches a point. No one knows why SE developers did it this way. Some believe it way laziness because TVs can only go 30fps and didn't need any elegant coding, other people believe that it was faster development work, that didn't know they had to port it to PC later. On a side thing, where I made this point with the 360 port posibilities, draw distance is actually quite easy to do, There is a windower plugin that(some bugs) does this already. So if you have a fancy new card, try to increase your draw distance to see if you like it. |

Humans can see faster than 30fps. -.- Computer renders are different than a film movie on many, many levels. Suffice to say, 60fps in the modelviewer is notably smoother than 30. I would kill myself if I was stuck playing an fps game like quake at 30fps.

My Mood: | Re: Max FPS
I get 100 billion frames per second. Actually on highest settings in port jeuno I think I average like 15 unless I'm at the AH and theres 100 people around me. Cool to know that it only goes up to 30 and I'm not suffering terribly. Though, some weather effects and places like jugner with all the trees do a number on my PC.

The human eye can see max around 66 FPS, though there's probably a few cases where people can notice a difference at higher FPS. On TVs and other mediums such as film, even though it only runs around 25~ish FPS (28.8?) the way your eye interprets it etc, is different than that of a computer monitor. That's why you don't really notice a difference between 30 and 60 FPS on a TV vs. a monitor. I don't know exactly how that stuff works so perhaps someone else can explain it. As for the 30 FPS limit, probably just SE being lazy and not wanting to deal with fancy coding :p |
