Nice site! I enjoyed it a-plenty! I haven't even finished the main city missions yet and I read through the whole thing, spoilers and all and I liked it. I don't think it ruined anything for me, either. It's not like I'm not going to enjoy the story once I get to it in the game. But, that's just me. I mean, if someone doesn't want to be spoiled, then they're not going visit that site. If they don't care, then whatever. Legal Fish, stop trying to be everyone's mommy. Stop acting like you care so much. |

How is what happened in CoP "HISTORY"? It happens after the start of the game. And there is a lot of history not included on the main page. By putting a STICKY on it, not just talking about it, but saying its a very important guide, much like a guide on how to play with japanese players or what are controls or what to do at level 1, on a site that is mostly filled with low level players who have not completed half of CoP(this includes many of the mods). It is just not the place to put it. I don't care what level 6 WHMs say about it. If you liked the story so much playing through it, why prevent( and really, just because you don't force people doesn't mean you are not doing any harm, too many noobs have seen you site and think they can take part in talks about whats going to happen next in Vana'diel) other people from feeling the exact experience. People who havn't had the chance to do this yet don't understand how rewarding it is(hello2ulvl6WHM) and forfeit it completely. This game most forgiving aspect is the story, but its pointless for SE to even write these stories if people just read them online(and get half the story no less, like only watching the beginning and end of a movie). Personally I don't care if there is a site like this, there has been for all Final Fantasys, however, this is stickied on a site meant for low-level players. Why not just sticky MrArgus while you are at it? Oh wait, not even Windower can be dicussed here, but something that rips the heart of game is so grand that is should be sticked. To repeat, I see 3 sites in the sticky that have the words "New Player Guide" in it and I see a link for links which is very imporant for new players. A thread, with simply a link this site(in my opinon this isn't a "must-need,-everyone-who-plays-this-game-needs-to-see", it should be a link in the Links thread, not a thread on itself, Somepage or FFXIclopedia, or mysterytour would be better) sticked within that list. "History of Vana'diel" is only 10% non-spoiler history, and 30% history at all(the rest is the actual game). Nowhere in your post you even mention it has spoilers. Back when this site was very big on its own(pre-holy crap its empty in here, pre-hey we are the allakZAMs), it was facing a huge WoW vs FFXI war, and it was like a constant debate. Your website(on Gamefaqs at the time I do believe) was brought as an excuse to quit, because this game is all about the story and now that you can simply read the entire story(read: what people think the entire story is) in one sitting. While its a stupid reason in some respects, it pretty explains exactly what I'm saying on slightly more exagerated scale. A solution, What would a better site look like? I don't expect you to throw out your site, and your site is fine when it isn't an all-so-special sticky in a lowbie site. Instead of just giving everyone a copy and paste, why not simply include less details and more so point where you get the information. "Moblin Lore"... well you give what POL gives you and stuff picked up from Vana'diel Tribune in the intro, some stuff that is in the game however are not spoilers, a list of important Moblin characters, and finally a list of missions, quests, and NPCs where Moblin information is obtainned. As a bonus, list what level these quests and missions can be done in several group sizes. Now you have something that assists the game, not take something away from it. "NO WAI THATS STUPID". Well now, it would force players(sosry mr.level6WHM) to do something(OMG I WANT TO KNOW EVERYTHING FROM READING LETTERS ON THE INTERNET), which could be a little 'bad'. However, it would probably make your site better in parts you ignored(everything but missions and some AF quests). If my "insults" are making you upset about this and that, why not just do the correct thing(I don't see how this is debatable) and get this unstickied, or at least compremise by putting wall of warning before the link like this: Quote:
"HEY I THINK THIS SITE CONTAINS SPOILERS!". And to people who don't care about the story: Either make some very close friends or quit the game now if you are after making yourself strong, because this game, for whatever reason, isn't good at all in any related to armor/weapon progression. Mr.LVL6 WHM doesn't understand this at the moment, but when he is level 75, either forced to camp the same HNMs(from the first expansion) over and over, or do slightly funner or harder things for a reward 1/4 as good, or get nothing at all. If you are completeling CoP for that Rajas Ring, for access to Limbus, or "In the Name of Science" you should be playing WoW.

I understand where you're coming from.. but this site wasn't made for people who want to enjoy the game in it's fullest, like ME. it was made for people who maybe have just had a child like my friend in game, who becuase of that can no longer play but still wants to keep up on the story. Or people like my friend sinto who uses it to find key plot points when writing his fan fics.. or my friend Asht, who couldn't find a CoP group for the life of him and never did it...like many MANY MAAAANY people. this site is for them. edit: also, on asura at least 50% of the players are MMORPGers..NOT RPGers..they could give a crap about plot and breeze through it all.

Fair enough, but why is it stickied here? Those players are obviously not in the majority and obviously are not going to be looking for guides on how to play the game better. People "can't do CoP" because they are sheep, the need someone to hold their hand. Posting strats good enough that a baby could beat it would probably help your friend Ash far more. Anyone can clear CoP if they actually try, it isn't impossible to find a group. Someone needs to not be a sheep and know plenty of other sheep, and they have a group.

I didn't post it here, I don't know. All I did was make something I loved. The people who run the site must have seen some value in it.

who are you, Mr Fish, to dictate how a person should play their game? what they can read and what they can do at what level? how arrogant are you to believe that you are the sole authority on "properly" enjoying the game? pfft Kerri's site is information. It is very good information for those who are interested in such things and thus I (yes, now you have a target to place the blame) felt it was worthy of a sticky. Quote:

Fine, the level 6 WHMs can do as they like, I'm not going to tell people what to do, I never really intend to. Maybe I'm come from a backward world where you usually read the book, not be told the entire storyline. No matter how many level 6 WHM moderators think its 'their free right', that doesn't take away from that fact that this site is it does not help players(new or old) which makes it odd next to threads that do and it should be called the Plot of FFXI, because only 10% of it seems to be the History of Vana'diel, only because it directly explains more of the plot. Sosry to the creator of the site if there was offense, but your site needs more information that assist players(hello there hard to find information that isn't one big spoiler).

*Ahem* I must say, I really love your website, but this is my first time through actually reading the thread and I am a little shocked at some of the behavior here and I just wanted to say: Do not let some people tear your creation down just because it is something that they could never accomplish in their own life time. With that being said, I was wondering if you are going to finish the AF storylines? I'm really curious about the whm and rng AF storylines in particular. And I was also wondering how did you do it? Did you actually go through all of this and write it all down word for word or find it online or what? The amount of information and detail you've put into this is really quite astounding. And I'm not sure, but I think I might have found a mistake in your dragoon AF story. I thought that Epuracion's wyvern lost it's holy crest, he went into a self imposed exile to heal his wyvern (and also to atone for what he viewed as his crimes) Many years later he restored his wyvern's holy crest, but by that time he was too old to raise a new wyvern and he died either in the hills or the Temple of Whatever. It's been a little bit since I last watched my helmet AF cutscene, but that's what I remember and I could double check on that if you wanted me to. Big Kudos for an awesome site!

Jade, I for one love the site. I've been viewing it for along time now. I found it extremely useful during my CoP adventure. It took my LS around a year to complete so it was nice to go back and see what happened.. Also it's useful since SE releases mission about every 3 months and you sometimes forget what happened. Now I am wondering if you ever plan to add ToAU missions, more AF storylines, and some of the side related storyline info found in Vana'diel Tribune? But in anycase it's a great site and keep up the good work. |

| HOV down?
If you haven't noticed already, History of Vana'diel is gone. I am the one who hosts HOV and a couple other sites. I recently cancelled service with my old host and I switched to a better host along with a new domain. So my server should be incredibly fast, faster than my old one. HOV is now located at.. http://www.zera-studio.net/hov The HOV forums are now located at..... http://www.zera-studio.net/hov/forums The forums ARE NOT UP, they will be sometime this Saturday. So do yourself a favor and update your bookmarks! If there are any broken links to pictures on the site, don't be looking at me to fix them, I don't work on HOV site, I just host it and moderate its forums .
