Getting New Spells?

Hi, I just reached lvl 5 as a black mage and I still only have my one starting spell, stone. How do you get new spells?

At BLM5, you should have 4 spells:

Stone
Poison Lv.3
Blind Lv.4
Water Lv.5

Check out FFXI Somepage. Near the bottom of the navigation panel there's a link to Spells by Class. You can tell it what level spells you're interested in. Check that out for future use/reference.

You buy from the magic shops around Vana'diel or the Auction House (AH). Usually the magic shop is way cheaper than the Auction House though.

The three nations all have at least one magic shop in town.

You have to buy spells. This list will tell you where to find them. Try not to buy spells off AH if you don't have to.
