I was wondering do you still to use a credit card after you download and install the free version for 30 days?

I would imagine so. The credit card info was used for more then just purchasing, it was an identity of the person as well that's playing the game. Which is why during part of the POL setup when it asked for that info (was not billing part) that it requested credit card. That specific section SE won't change it's info either even if you call them, but it tags your identity to the POL system. Likely part of SEs security functions for them to use or even expand from.

In either case the POL system I know uses the credit card for indentity purposes, or at least it did when I got the game if they changed it I do not know about it then.
