i think the GMs should drop all the items from him, soon as he gets out of gm jail, he should get mpk'd the crap out of, then someone should h4x him :D then again, i'm passive aggressive

Although they did edit the ToS to include things such as getting screwed in the game by another player in items and/or gil, I don't believe they give the items back to their rightful owner when the issue is settled completely. All that they mention is that the items in question will be confiscated by a GM along with any other items that are associated (such as items bought with stolen gil) and the player that has comitted the wrong-doing will be sent to GM Jail and eventually suspended upon further instances of this.

Hope that helps a bit, but I really don't see you getting your items back, but now that the guy admitted you can at least have him lose all of his hard work and get sent to GM Jail.

i dont think anyone else mentioned this, after you scan for viruses, spyware, keyloggers... change your password! even if you already did, if the keylogger is still on your pc, it didn't do any real good, b/c once he finds out you changed it, he'll check the keylogger.

I got my gear stolen too, realized it when i returned. Lost 30mil+ in gear. It's ok, i can start over, its a game. Meant to have a good time.

Yes it does, as most adware removal programs also detect and remove keyloggers because a lot of adware programs use keylogging as a general source of advertisement. They detect what you've been typing in and thus looking for recently, and then spam you with ads based on those things.

also, don't have simple passwords. any brute force program will crack your password if it's a simple word. best passwords are nonsensical comibnations of words and numbers.

That's correct and make it at least 6 characters in length. That will provide a much larger combination of possibilities that Brute Force hacks can't do. Either way though Brute Force hacking is a pretty old concept and not to commonly used anymore because of the quantity of possible combinations and time it takes to break them.

Besides that why bother forcing your way in when you get the person to give you access to it. Much easier, much cleaner, and leaves very little evidence of a hacker on the source that they hacked.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the PlayOnline ID made up of a combination of random alphabets & numbers? Therefore, if you got hacked it is definitely not brute forcing/guessing of passwords because the person must know your login ID as well. Which is why..

1) never give away your account details unless you trust that person (sometimes even trusted friends can easily betray your trust because Gil/Rare items > Friendship)

2) keyloggers (because you download a 3rd party program that is FFXI related or somebody in FFXI sent it to you intentionally). I say this because how would any other person know that the logged ID and passwords is for FFXI unless they play it themselves.

Most mmorpg companies don't give a shit if your account got hacked because they get so many reports of such incidents everyday, it is impossible (well... not impossible just time consuming and they're lazy) to investigate and sort out all of them.

Hope you get the items back though.. accomplishing so much and losing it all in an instant is not a good feeling.

Picture it...

You are a young looking fella with a history of abusing people's trust. You pawn yourself off as a freshman living in the dorms at your local college of choice. After loitering around for weeks and making 'friends' with dozens of unsuspecting frosh life-n00bs you find yourself the opportune moment. It seems a good number of these kids, especially the trust-fundies like to go on extended road trips at weeks end. Having some first-hand knowledge of who's coming and going is... well, handy. Of course these same morons have a bad/good habit of leaving doors unlocked and computers logged on. Nevertheless, keylogging... password stealing... and Identity theft is all too easy. Heck, you could even make online transfers from accounts and online purchases so inconspicuously that it may last for months before they catch on. Afterall, if the heat gets turned up, you just clean house and split. You grow your goatee out a few inches and go back to your plush middle aged lifestyle working as IT Administrator at the local call center. Wait until next semester when a fresh new crop of frosh rookies living off mom and dads credit move in. Rinse and Repeat...
