Re: How to raise your NPC buddy

The lvl 50 capped BCNM isn't a cakewalk, but it's far from impossible, too. I won as brd/whm.

Debuffs still pretty well, and is probably one of the biggest keys to the fight. As bard, I wasn't surprised to stick elegy and requiem, but I was surprised to get slow/paralyze/silence to land. It seems like these will easily land once or twice, then he becomes resistant to that spell. Still, that should buy you the leeway you need to win the fight.

Time isn't much an issue, if you bring enough mp regen to heal your NPC you can just wait it out. I lost the first time, running out of mp, used 2 melon juices and one Hi-Ether .. a 2nd Hi-Ether probably would have won it for me.

Every little bit helps.. even as a non-DD class, I'd suggest getting some hits in. I didn't notice any TP moves (other than Blighted Gloom, which is a non-issue) and my hits did maybe 1/4th-1/3rd of the total damage (including my DoT).

Again, assuming mage class.. go in, buff your NPC (protect, shell if you have it) -- Slow/Paralyze/Silence/Dia -- use MP regen items -- swing away, healing as needed.

It may seem like the fight isn't going too fantastically, but once he starts getting Blighted Gloom countered, it will pick up significantlly.

Re: How to raise your NPC buddy

I was almost kind of sad to know I'd never be able to do this fight again, because it was pretty cool (even losing the first time!). At least with other BCs, you know that you can go back in to help friends with a mission or quest sometime, but not this one.

Re: How to raise your NPC buddy

i'm likely going to go in as WHM/NIN after i finish this quest that unlocks the advanced jobs. a friend is going to let me use the item that unlocks stawlart shield

you will need refresh drinks, hi-ethers, muslums, and hi-potions from what i heard. i'm going to pop boiled crab and dual wield clubs. i'm going to wear the full crow set when i get the money to get it, for -enmity and +evasion.

this is very similar to maat except you want the npc to tank.

Re: How to raise your NPC buddy

Well, as far as gear goes they equip a specific set as you level in that certain nation. How high on the set they go seems to vary on the friendship bond you have with them. After a certain point if your bond isn't high enough and you continue with that region you'll end up with them equipping Beastman gear.

When I stuck with San d'Oria before the update I got my NPC all the way up to the Iron Musketteer set and then they went and switched to RSE lv. 1 gear and started going up along that. They need to refine though how the system works on what gear you've "locked on" to the NPC, I thought I had the gear locked on them before then all the sudden they started changing gear again. The current design makes it difficult to tell what gear your NPC is keeping and which they're going to change, for something that seems to be only cosmetic that is quite annoying that you can't accomplish the desired cosmetic appearance with ease.

Re: How to raise your NPC buddy

Armor changes also depends on what city/beastmen that has dominant influence of that area at the time you are there with your fellow.
Do NOT mix this up with who's won the conquest of that region.
Best way to get what you aim for is to kill mobs in starting areas that almost never lose control, (eg Ronfaure, Rarutabaruta, Gustaberg)
and lock the armor when you get what you want.

Re: How to raise your NPC buddy

Has anyone figured out a way to get your NPC to make more food??

Anyone tried trading ingrediants to the NPC?

I was kinda hoping that the NPC would make me a dish once a week or something.

Re: How to raise your NPC buddy

I'd quite like something like this myself. I've only tried the BCNM once so far. I went as BLM50 since it was all I had level 50 gear for, set my NPC to Stalwart Shield but ended up spending most of my time healing. I got the mob down to about 50% before my NPC died and I got kicked out the battle field.

Re: How to raise your NPC buddy

what level is your NPC Kafeen?
i did this as RDM/NIN(almost naked) with my NPC on Stalwart Shield and it was pretty easy, only had to Cure IV her a few times, fight lasted maybe 5 minutes.
I'm thinking anyone with a NPC lvl 50 should be able to do this easy

Melee should probably go with Healer NPC and /NIN if possible, probably want some potions too to be safe
Mages should go with Tank NPC and /NIN if possible >.>

Re: How to raise your NPC buddy

My NPC is 53-54 or something. Since my BLM didn't work out in the BCNM I decided to go in as RDM myself subbing BLM. I figured convert would give me the extra MP I needed to keep myself alive. In the end whether it was refresh keeping my MP up, en- spells keeping my damage up or the enfeebles I was able to stick on or the new weapon I'd just bought my NPC the fight was a walk in the park. I never came close to dying, neither did my NPC. I finished the fight with around 30% MP left and didn't need convert. I went in almost naked too, I had fishing gear on but that was about it. ^^
