SE has GOT to evolve their FFXI update system!

has anyone noticed that updates got worse an worse after the v-day massacre ?? honestly if S.E is going to baby the DDos attacks theory. maybe they should release these updates in spurts. break down the updates so were only dloading 350 files instead of 1500.

I went out for a few hours and when I got back home at around 10pm my update only took 10 minutes to complete. It was at 4 hours when I left and got disconnected.

SE makes no sense.

ive been out of the whole thing for more than 20 hours, and today i still cant update, but it's not like my life depends on a game, it's not like it hasnt happened before, you people need to go out in the sun and stop thinking about ffxi every damn minute, it only makes the wait longer for you, so just chill

that would make it worse, because the biggest problem with the update is actually accessing to it, once you've accessed atleast you can start downloading bit by bit, if you get disconnected then it's no good because youll have to access again

now imagine if square released spurts of 350 files, say every other day, youd have people bashing everyday for these files that would cause repeated strain on the servers and imo it would be worse

ps. altho i do understand that releasing these spurts also means that people would leave the download faster, but at peak times it would be insanity

now, i think they could update the downloading process

create a little browser for updates in the POLviewer, so both ps2 and pc users can access, people could go there and download these files manually by choosing a server or something, number of users and transfer rate should be shown so people can antecipate problems

that or create limited servers, like 3000 people per server, if a server is full people will get re-directed, if all servers are full, well sucks to be you, stay in line, it's the best way because it avoids massive strain

peopole complain like this every time SE has a big update every 3-6 months or so, GET OVER IT. you can stand to not play for 1-2 days and get a bunch of new and cool stuff ingame, or would you rather play a never changeing never evolving world that never has anything new?

My post was never intended as a whine to say "boo hoo I can't play my FFXI! I'll die if I can't play my FFXI!" Bullshit. I had better things to do yesterday. Like SLEEP since I was sick as a dog. In fact, that's what I did each time my download started and failed. But it sure would have been nice if there was a queueing system and I could just click update and go to sleep and not babysit it til it was done. If that were the case, I wouldn't care how long the update took. Instead if we want to get our software updated, we have to sit there and click retry over and over again. As network administrator and designer I was just complaining about how retarded Square Enix's IT staff obviously is. They have a game designed for hundreds of thousands of simultaneous users, but their update system is only good for maybe a few thousand people at a time. That said, I don't understand why they can't seem to explain the source of the "DDoS attacks". I don't think anyone over there has fathomed that it MIGHT JUST BE all the users repeatedly clicking their RETRY buttons that's DDoSing them.

Yeah this updater sucks big time. I just re-installed the game today, 7 hours of updates? wtf?
Thats 2 days now ive paid for the game and havent been able to play (due to network congestion and now when i finally start DLing it takes the whole day)

FFXI biggest downfall is the downloading proccess. Its out of date, and really should at least suck a bit less, I mean more servers please!
