Macht touched on this, but I'll try to clear it up more.

I believe Starving is mistaken on Windower the difference of between accessbility, and functionality.

Posting a hack on a public BBS = Accessbility = every nOOb cheating rampant.

Windower = functionality = performing the current method of starting up a hack.

Windower does not slow the accessbility side because, all the hack has to do is create xxxxxxx Windower independent and release it to public BBS, and is see the situation of last weekend.

Breaking windower is a bandaid, but in no way will it makes it curb amateur wannabe cheaters from cheating.

Then it would simply mean: Hacker clicks on xxxxxxxx , goes into ffxi, presses f11, and a menu bar would come up with various controls. Heck they can skip the menu bar, and just simply use keybinds( maping keys to functions like crt-f1 to go up)

I think they already messed up the current windower. I logged in and my POL accounts were erased from list. I had to find my old book and add them on again. Now it doesn't work.

Being able to tell the TP of a party member, the HP% of a target... ugh, why now crack down?

I don't think there's any doubt that preventing cheating should be the number one priority. If cheating becomes widespread, the game will die pretty quickly.

I found these links on another FFXI fourm shows a GM banning person for using that windower. Finally SE doing something about it. SE comming down hard in this windower hack this guy didn't even get a warning. Point is you shouldn't be using it. If you do use it you risk getting banned.

Yes isn't that an interesting read? Basically they feel they can interogate you and dangle termination over your head if you don't give them details. Nice technique there SE.

I do think that it was a very bad mistake for the archbell windower to include those plugins, especially with them enabled by default. As the screenshots show, the GM specifically asked for those special features, as those constitute cheating (as harmless as it may be compared to bots/sniffers/etc). I doubt they'd come down so hard if it had just been a regular windower app.

Personally I have never used the windower - in those rare cases where I absolutely must look up something, I just do a temp logout and alt-tab from the the POL viewer. Sure it takes a little longer but it avoids account suspension/termination.

Seriously, all I need in a windower... is a windower. Those extra plugins are not neccesary for me. If Archbell didn't have the TP/etc showing we wouldn't have all this drama from SE.

The plugins can be disabled quite easily... in about two seconds. And once disabled the first time, they won't load ever again.

If you read the conversation with the GM more closely you'll see the GM baiting the player into describing what the windower does... since they don't know.

The GM also intimates that the windower pulls TP/HP/MP from the server when infact it pulls it from a local file and memory. The windower DOES NOT pull any information from the server.

Also, people seem to be so worried about the windower being a TOS violation, but they never mention that the Log Parser, Offline Macro Editors, and Model Viewer are also 3rd party programs that are not allowed.

S.E is just taking pop shots at the NA community. who created the windower first, who created the cheats, the modelveiwer, the bots... JP PLAYERS. yet what update ever targets them, ever hear of one getting banned, i know i never have.

Again beating down on windower, is like beating down on people using rulers to draw. The concept is so basic to OS theory, it'll always be around in some form.
